Build Your Own Gaming Notebook

Looking for a good gaming laptop?

hey, so im looking for a good gaming laptop to take to college next year... Thanks for the help! 1) What is your budget? 1100$ but i can go over 100-200 if i need to.. would rather not though 2) What size notebook would you prefer? Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen 17" is aiight 4)Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? Asus looks good, but im not picky.. just not dell--ive heard a lot of negative reviews of their laptops 5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? gaming, surfing, music and movies. 6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? Taking it with me. durability is important 7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? Wow (which is more processor dependant?) 8) How many hours of battery life do you need? More is better but once again.. im not too picky 9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? No, don't mind 10) What OS do you prefer? Windows 7 11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? No preference 12) what screen resolutions would you prefer? the best i can get =p 13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? No preference 14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? kinda-- why i like asus 15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? Within the next three months; as long as possible 16) How much hard drive space do you want? as much as possible (320GB would be good) so all in all, I guess im trying to find a solid machine with a nice balance of processor speed, graphics card, and RAM. thanks again!

  3. This is a good deal, a great looking laptop, and it satisfies what you ask for:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+FX+Edition+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174;+Centrino%26%23174;+2+Processor+Technology/9605365.p?id=1218130485627&skuId=9605365

    I'd normally recommend Asus, but this happens to be an even more bang for your buck right now, and Gateway makes decent computers overall. Since it is a gaming laptop, don't expect 3 hours of battery life, but it does have 9-cells Lithium, so it does better than the generic 6-cell.

    By the way, WoW is more dependant on the graphics card, like most video games.

  4. You are looking for a Intel Core i7 Quad Core laptop.

    HP Pavilion dv6t Quad Edition series $1000

  5. You can build your own laptop for about $1000. At OCZ, they have laptop kits that have almost everything: graphics card, motherboard, optical drive(your choice of Blu-ray or DVD drive).You need to buy a Hard Drive, RAM, OS and a processor. It should last longer than other laptops because you can upgrade it whenever you want.

    The kit costs around $580.

    2 GB RAM=$40-$55

    320 GB Hard Drive=$70-$120

    Processor=$200-$400

    Linux OS=FREE! (I recommend Ubuntu)

    Windows 7=Depends on version

    Vista=Depends on version

    XP= Depends on version

    Newegg and TigerDirect are good places to shop for parts.
