Build Your Own Gaming Notebook

When will this be feasible? Wireless "notebook" that has no CPU.. see inside?

Think of a laptop that isn't a laptop at all.. all it is is a keyboard, mouse and screen. All wireless and with a battery as usual.. but that's it. No hard drive, no cpu, no ram.. no need for any of those.. because all this is is an interface to your house's central computer. That beast of a monster you just finished building. Why the need to buy a laptop to work around the house if you've got to spend another fortune to get one that runs as well as your mothership's computer =P you get me? These days with bluetooth and 2.4ghz wireless you've got an incredible range on keyboard and mouse. I realize this doesn't require a lot of data transfer.. but I'm hearing about wireless KVMs now.. they can send the video signal over wireless too.. How soon do you think it'll be fast enough to game on one of these?. Meaning.. you play the game on the central computer.. but from anywhere in the house. Thanks, and if anyone has info on projects in development that aim to do this. Plz let me know!!!

  1. A processor of some type will always be needed, although not in the common definition of a processor for today's PC. Even if the data for KVM was wireless to the "console", it would still require a processor of some type to interpret the data coming coming in and out. Although it wouldn't be a Quad Core.

Would be a cool concept though, touch screen would be nice, eliminate the keyboard (won't work too well on some of today's games though). Essentially what it would be is a "dumb-terminal" on a wireless network, wired "dumb-terminals" have been around since the 70's.

Here is something I found though on the subject:
