Checklist for custom gaming PC? Hey, i want to upgrade from my Notebook to a gaming PC. Just wondering how to go about this, I am not too bad with PCs and know a little about components and things, yet have never built my own PC so am not aware of how i would make sure that all of the components would work together and all fit on the same motherboard. Things like RAM and a Processor, cooling system (only ever used heat-sinks, don't know about other devices) Would anybody be able to give me a checklist for what i would need? I would like to build it and not have to spend as much as i would if i bought one pre-built. Does not have to be top-end stuff but something that can run all current PC games on high settings with a good frame rate. I know the sort of numbers i am after for things like Processor, RAM and HDD space, but it is making sure that everything is compatible. Thanks! I know the numbers i am looking for and the operating system that i would need, it was more like: Video card Processor RAM (and the sort of ram, i dont know the difference) motherboard IDE ribbon cables (not sure if these are used anymore, i have used a laptop for years now) Power supply This is the sort of info i want, a list that i can check things of when i obtain them, thanks!
Help with gaming PC components? I'm gonna buy a new custom-built Alienware m17 or m15x gaming notebook, but I need to be sure of how I'm gonna buy it. I know about all the different components, but some things have me confused, for example: 1. Which is better: a 3.2 GHz single-core, 2.8 GHz dual-core, or 2.26 GHz quad-core processor and by how much? 2. Do I need a faster processor for 4GB RAM than for 2GB RAM? 3.Do dual graphics cards need a faster processor or more RAM than single graphics cards? 4.Will a dual-layer blu-ray drive read game CD's and DVD's slower than an 8X dual-layer DVD-ROM drive? 5. Do i need a faster CPU or more RAM for multiple hard drives? 6. Does the built-in digital TV tuner need anything else (cable\satellite subscription, antenna) to receive channels? Also, if you have any recommendations for components like processor types/speeds, graphics cards types, etc., to be able to run the latest graphics-intensive games, please tell me. Also, please answer only if you actually know what you're talking about because that's a couple thousand bucks I'll be throwing down the drain if I order a laptop with parts that won't work right together. Thanks. I have a $3000 limit. maybe up to $3500 I know I might sound like an idiot (cause I do know about computers), but I needed to dumb myself down to make sure I got all the info I need; its better than pretending like I know everything and not getting any info.

Free PC Games that Aren't Graphically Demanding.? I have a custom built gaming rig, but I not a home and only have my laptop with me (which sucks). Feedback on gaming computer choice.? I've had some... very...bad experiences with building my own computer and was recommended ibuypower.com for my next god-box. They look great and the prices are very favourable, however, I was wondering if any of the dozens of custom gaming pc sites differ at all in quality/price? Also, I was hoping to buy a laptop, as I am going to college soon, and will need a notebook as well as a powerful gaming fix. Do you think it wise to buy a gaming laptop? Would there be any negatives to buying a laptop as opposed to a tower? Thanks for any help and I would appreciate any other feedback. So, you're saying that, performance-to-price, desktops are actually cheaper? (and of course upgradeable)
Which notebook should I buy? I've been looking into finding a nice notebook for around $800 dollars to take off to college. The only gaming I do is WoW, which isn't too graphic intensive, so which of these should I buy? HP DV 6700t w/ Intel t72550 (2GHZ, 2MB, 800 MHZ), 2gb RAM, 256mb nvidia 8400M GS or iBuyPower Battalion 101 CZ-7 Elite (custom built from ibuypower.com) w/ intel T5450 (1.66GHz/2MB Cache/667FSB), 2gb ram, 256mb nvidia go 8600GT Most of the rest is pretty similar. The only other thing worth mentioning is that the HP has Vista premium 64 bit, while the other only has the 32 bit version. Both are about the same price, so which will probably yield better speeds in a game like WoW or Guild Wars? Will the better graphics card on the ibuypower make up for the slower processor? Or, if you know of a better notebook for around $800 or less, then by all means, do tell.
Recommendations for a Gaming Laptop? I'm trying to get other people's ideas on what laptop I should get. I'm starting out in college and I'm going to get a laptop as a high school graduation present. It must be under $1000 and not too large. I will be using it for schoolwork and gaming (mostly MMO's and an FPS or 2). The laptop I'm currently considering is the one below which costs $992.00 + shipping. It's the best I could find that hopefully wouldn't overheat on me. Need a good gaming computer. HELP.? So I don't know a lot about specs for computers. I just love playing on computers. Right now all I have is a cheap netbook that I can't do a lot on. I want a good gaming computer. One that will let me play online with others with games like Halo and also play my Sims games. I don't want it to lag up on me. I tried playing Halo on my netbook and it was working fine until I got to a battle scene. Then there was no way to play. So I went to iBuyPower.com and custom configured a computer. Can this laptop play Aion with VERY good requirments? It's just a VERY simple question; can the following laptop play Aion (under win7 OS, meaning the i7 can be used so that 2 cores are totally dedicated to the game) at VERY very good requirements smoothly? And, would there be any problems with these specs? ager NP8690 (Built on Clevo W860CU) Custom Gaming Laptop - 15.6” HD+ 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1600x900) with Super Clear Glare Type Screen ETA Early October - Standard Dead Pixel Policy - Intel® Core™ i7-820QM, 1.60-2.80GHz, (45nm, 6MB L3 cache) - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - nVidia GeForce GTX 280M 1,024MB PCI-Express GDDR3 DX10 (User Upgradeable) - No External Graphics Card - No Video Adapter - ~ 4,096MB DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS) (Requires Vista 64-Bit to utilize Full 4GB) - Standard Finish - ~Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Softwares - ~ 250GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache) - No Back Up Hard Drive - No Floppy Drive - Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS) - Internal Bluetooth + EDR - Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 5300 802.11 a/g/n Wi-Fi Link - No Network Accessory - Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera - No TV Tuner - Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included - Basic Black Business Case - Included - 11.1V Smart Li-Polymer battery pack 3800mAh, 42.18Wh - No Car Adapter - None Standard* - No Dock/Hub/Adapter - Integrated Fingerprint Reader - No External Keyboard or Mouse - Full Size Black Aluminum Notebook Cooler - Dual Fans - USB Powered (For up to 17" Laptops) - Winows 7 32/64bit Home Premium - Drivers & Utility Software Only - No Office Software - No Software Bundle - 3 Year Labor* 1 Year Parts Warranty Lifetime 24/7 DOMESTIC Based Toll Free Telephone Tech Support (Labor Warranty through Xotic PC) Includes FREE Shipping Both Ways for Warranty Repairs Thanks and Merry Christmas =) Michael Oops, I meant the processor is: i7 820QM @1.73GHz
Recommended computer settings? I dont know that much about computers, but i need to get a new one. I am looking for a laptop with a disk drive that is able to play almost any game at normal graphics settings. My current computer is the dell mini notebook (the one off of the original lollipop song commercial) and it cant play anything. I really just need to know the specs so that i can build a custom one on the dell website. Thanks, 10 points for best answer.
How well would the Sims 3 run on this notebook computer? I've been looking around for a notebook that will run smoothly. However, I cannot find a good notebook that will play the Sims 3 smoothly, so I'm going to ask those who understand a bit more than me. Will this machine work on a 3 of 4 star scale without it being slow and unstable? The notebook I'm currently looking at is: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit HP Pavilion HDZ16t 2.26 GHz Intel Core2 Duo CPU 4 GB DDR2 Memory/RAM 500 GB Hard Drive 1GB nVidia GeForce GT130M Now, it's saying that I need a CPU that's at least 2.4GHz P4 or equivalent. Now at the bottom shows that for "For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least: •Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above •2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent •0.5 GB additional RAM" My question on this is, if the built-in graphics are at least 1.8 GHz with a Core2 Duo, shouldn't it be the same if you had a 3rd party graphics like nVidia or ATI? The following Windows Vista system requirements are for the Sims 3. The video card above (1GB nVidia GeForce 130M) is supported by the Sims 3, so I know I have no issue there will determine how well this machine will run this game: •2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent •1.5 GB RAM •128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 •Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 •At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games The 2.4GHz Pentium 4 and equivalent are sort of confusing to me, because I've been thinking that the 2.26GHz isn't sufficent and I may have to upgrade it to the 2.66GHz Core2 Duo by customizing the notebook on HP.com which is about $175 extra to do so! So, my overall questionto you, do you believe this game will run sufficient to perfect, or should I upgrade something before this purchase such as the CPU or RAM? Actually, it only cost about $979.99 plus s/h would be $1,000. The link below is where I'm going to purchase it. http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computers/notebooks/HDX16t_series/rts/4/computer_store/NV032UA%2523ABA
Should I get a laptop or a PC? I'm currently living away from home so that I can be closer to my university, yet when I do go home on the weekends to my ancestral home I don't have much more than internet access on the tiny little netbook my mom has, and I can't be bothered to lug around my Desktop PC back and forth on a weekly basis. Another question would be one of price, since I can get a laptop and go back and forth but for a cheaper price I could have a souped-up PC here and bring this pretty much OK PC back to my parents' house. A custom built Toshiba Satellite Laptop with these specs would cost $1,135.20 which I have to buy from abroad, with 1-year limited warranty. Most ambiguous computer website question ever!? OK, This is gonna be a real duzy of a question to answer, mainly because of the vague information i have to go on for you guys. So here it is: A few months ago I came across this really awesome website that was a custom computer builder, it was very "bright" lots of orange and blue textures and computer images everywhere (i know, not very helpful), anyway this site let you customize any computer system you wanted: pc's, laptops, notebooks, etc. It sold parts made by virtually everybody, and gave me a level of customization that I've never seen since, problem is I forgot to bookmark it, and so when the next day my computer ran it's scheduled CCleaner, i lost the address, and have never been able to find the site since, and believe me I've looked hard. It wasn't a company like alienware or pugetsystems - one that sold it's own product - just a customization one. Websites that I've tried and haven't been it include: digitalstormonline, cyberpower, gamepc, shopl2, sagernotebook, and avadirect, among other similar ones. The best way I could describe the site (in terms of how it looked) would be a combination of shopl2.com, newegg.com, and tigerdirect.com (again with a blue and orange color scheme). In terms of It's functionallity, it would be similar to any of the websites i listed in the above paragraph, and it's method of selection utilized both "bubbles" and drop-lines (as far as i can remember). It also offered up to 48GB of RAM for memory, something that I haven't found elsewhere, and so might be a distiguishing detail. Also, I did copy the systems I built using the site, one pc and one laptop, and the details I will list below in case any of the parts listed provide a clue or answer for someone. Finally I found the site as a link on another website (which I also cannot recall). So please help! I will be keeping this question open for as long as possible, so please, as many people as possible, please help me out! Thank You in Advance! PC Games recommendations? On Friday I am picking up my new custom computer from Frys. I've been waiting two years to build it and its almost time. It's purpose is going to be for college,as I am a year away from that, but I'm also a gamer. I have been using an ASUS notebook for all my PC gaming needs but it hasn't really been very admirable performance wise. Anyhow, I am trying to think of a game to first purchase that will serve as a good benchmark and also a really fantastic game that I can come back to whenever and always find it fun. I am NOT a fan of fps's but anything else is welcomed. If you have any suggestions for any games, I'd love to hear them

Is my laptop met the system requirements for this game? I have a HP Pavilion dv9925nr Notebook PC and I would like to purchase the game The Sims 3. I am trying to find out if my system will be able to handle the game. I have vista on my laptop. Here are the game requirements: FOR WINDOWS VISTA 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent 1.5 GB RAM 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least: Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent 0.5 GB additional RAM I do not want it to be to slow in running the game. How can I tell if it will be ok or not?
HP Pavillion DV6700T? I am looking into purchasing a new notebook in two weeks. I have my eyes set on a custom built HP Pavillion DV6700T. I have never owned a Pavillion before, I did own a Compaq a few back years. I loved it, and it was extremely reliable (until I broke it) and I had pleasant experiences with customer support everytime I called. I would like to hear some personal experience from HP owners (preferably HP dv6700 owners). I have been told Macs are better (the only reason given was that they don't get viruses as easily), so I would like some feedback before I make my final decision. The laptop I am looking at have a 2.0 GHz Intel 2 Duo Core Processor, 2 GB of memory, a 256 NVIDIA Ge Force 8400M GS graphics card, and a 250GB harddrive, and comes with Windows Vista. It comes to roughly 850$. I rarely play games on PC, so don't expect to use it for more than web browsing, playing a few old games (The Sims 2 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3), writing, and housing my music and videos. Yes, I would prefer a DV6700 owner, but I am glad to hear from a HP owner. I want to make sure I prepare for everything before I buy it. My old Compaq m2000 would always get hot and burn my laptop (I will probably invest in a cooler this time around). But I just want to get some more info, as a techie, I am not. A lot of my friends are gamers, so they think I should get more than I think I really need for the purposes I need it.
Computer Problems!! Help!? I have an Acer notebook I got about a year and a half ago. I mostly use my computer for World of Warcraft and other games, but I will use WoW as an example. When i first got my computer it ran wow great at a decent video setting (I never expected it to be amazing since it is a laptop) but all of a sudden about 2 months ago it has been running very slowly. I had done a whole dump of every thing and restored it to factory settings since then I also don't have a virus that could be doing this. Specs: ATI Radeon x1200 (GPU integrated) AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core TK-42 (CPU 1.60GHz) 3 GB of Ram I know the specs aren't that great but it did run wow nicely 2 months ago then all of a sudden the FPS dropped drastically to about 20 and very low video settings and then about every 10 minutes it will drop to 5-8 FPS for about 5 minutes It wasn't during an update for wow so I don't think the GPU or CPU could be outdated just like that. I also can't OC as the video card is built in. Im not getting a new computer for at least a few months and when I do im custom building one but I need this one to run until then Thanks

Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily. Please note that attempting to play the game using video hardware that isn't listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all. The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.

Sims 3 work on Windows 7? Hi, I just got a new WIndows 7 Home Premium Acer 5732z Laptop and I was wondering if the Sims 3 would work on the laptop because I'm kind of confused.. Here it says it is not compatible with Windows 7: http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_li=&p_sid=biC3mC3k&p_sp=&p_faqid=23529&p_iid=0&p_created=&p_prod=&p_cat=&p_cv=&p_pv=&p_prods=&p_cats=&prod_lvl1=&prod_lvl2=&prod_lvl3=&cat_lvl1=&cat_lvl2=&cat_lvl3=&p_hidden_prods=&p_search_text=&p_new_search=&p_accessibility=&p_page=&p_lva=23529&nextlink= but then looking it up online some people say it works but it might be laggy if I play it. Also, here are the Sims 3 requirements: "FOR WINDOWS VISTA * 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent * 1.5 GB RAM * 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 * Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 * At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least: * Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above * 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent * 0.5 GB additional RAM" and this is what my computer has: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/notebook/2009/acer/aspire/Aspire5732Z/Aspire5732Zsp2.shtml Please help me out before I buy the Sims online and waste my money. Will these laptops run the sims 3? Here are the sims 3 requirements: FOR WINDOWS XP Windows XP (Service Pack 2) 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent 1 GB RAM At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 FOR WINDOWS VISTA Windows Vista (Service Pack 1) 2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent 1.5 GB RAM At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content 128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least: Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA X3000 or above. 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent 0.5 GB additional RAM SUPPORTED VIDEO CARDS NVIDIA GeForce series FX 5900, FX 5950 6200, 6500, 6600, 6800 7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950 8400, 8500, 8600, 8800 9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280 ATI Radeon™ series 9500, 9600, 9800 X300, X600, X700, X800, X850 X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950 2400, 2600, 2900 3450, 3650, 3850, 3870 4850, 4870 Intel® Extreme Graphics GMA X3x00 series Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Intel integrated chipsets featuring underclocked parts will not perform adequately. Here are the laptops I'm looking at: http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/xpslt_gaming?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs AND/OR http://www.alienware.com/products/notebook-computers.aspx Also, how good will they run the sims 3?

Laptop recommendation $800 budget? 1) What is your budget? I need to buy 2 laptops for under $800. I feel like its impossible but -___-" im desperate at this point. 2) What size notebook would you prefer? Any It doesn't really matter as long as its not too small. 3) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? This Lap top is gonna travel but will be well taken care of. 4) Where will you buying this notebook? Buying in the US. 5) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? I’m open to any brand...Im not really liking HP because i have a desktop thats Hp and it just sucks its fan is always running and its graphics card is ancient. 6) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? Yes. 7) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? I will be primarily gaming with this laptop as well as college. I also want to use it for video and photo editing and movie making. 8) Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? Gaming will be the primary purpose of the laptop. I’d like to be able to play games like the Sims 2 how ever I have tuns of Custom Content which require a good graphics card 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? 2 - 4 hours 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? I just want to be able to see images of the laptop so that I know the location of ports and buttons. 11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Windows 7. NO VISTA! 12) When are you buying this laptop? Next few months 13) If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links. Not exactly, no. 14) Additional Information I would really like it if the buttons were illuminated and if it had a built in Web cam and mic. The web cam and Mic are optional. 15) What screen resolution(s) would you prefer? I would like HD 16) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen? This won’t be a dealbreaker either way as long as it is clean, clear, and high quality. 17) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Performance and functionality come first. Style would be great as an added bonus, but not a requirement. The laptop can look plain – I don’t need fancy lighting or designs 18) How long do you want this laptop to last? How long do you want to keep your laptop? Ummm hopefully at least 4 to 8 years 19) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive? Uh as long at the computer Has 3 GB at least im good. I dont know what an SSD drive is >_> just need to be able to put in my cds and USBs and my camera's memory card. 20) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? CDRW/DVD-ROM (a dvd burner would be nice but not needed). 21) Other Would like the basics of a regular college computer with the amenities of a great graphics card and at least 3 GB of memory. The Sims 2: Application has crashed and will now terminate? I recently asked for help with my Sims 2 game crashing. I am reposting with more information. To restate the problem, when I load a family and begin gameplay within the home, the game will eventually freeze. A window appears saying the application has crashed and will now terminate. I do have custom content, however I have filtered through it to try and decifer whether or not it may add to the problem. It appears that the custom content does not affect the problem. Can you edit this this essay about mac and pc compare and contrast? Mac or PC? One day I went to Best Buy with my dad to look at laptops and computers. A majority of the laptops and computers I saw were Apple Macintoshes and Window PC’s. I asked my dad, “What are the differences and similarities between a Mac and a Pc?” He stated that an Apple Macintosh and Window Pc fundamentally do the same things, but have different features. For instance, the ease of use, hardware, and software are not precisely the same between a Mac and a Pc. The ease of use for Apple Mac has integrated video tutorials, a consistent experience across all applications, and a drag and drop based action. Despite the fact that, particular tasks such as moving your iTunes and iPhoto libraries to a hard drive can be perplexing. Plus, you can jeopardize losing your complete music collection if you don't follow the directions exactly right. Knowing that, a Window Pc has an uncontrollable barrage of error messages and freeze-ups. Although, currently a Window Pc has become less crash prone, but they are more customizable. Which one appears to be the preeminent preference to you? As hardware goes most computers have a tendency to fall into predictable Mac and PC lines. Apple is the only company making certified Mac computers, so you essentially have a choice between their seven models. Although, the all in one nature of nearly all the Mac computers means that custom add ons neighboring additional memory and third party graphics can be expensive, complicated and to some extent, limited. For a Pc the sky is the limit in terms of hardware, with everything from bargain basement, bulky desktops, professional laptops, everyday desktops and lavish notebooks. Plus, a Pc has an ample variety of price range, designs, sizes, and the inclusion of built in technologies such as mobile broadband and high def Blu-ray disc playback. The Software of an Apple Mac and a Windows Pc are particularly contradictory. Pc has an assorted extensive collection of software to choose from, for example Visual Studio, Camfrog, Realtek, Video Chat, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Nero, Photoshop, Windows Games, and Microsoft Office. Whereas Mac mostly has all Apple software for example, Apple Safari, , iLife, iWork, MobileMe, Aperture, Final Cut Studio, Final Cut Server, Logic Express, MacOSX, and Snow Leopard. However Apple Macs software is to some extent limited, but on Pc approximately everything will work. Both computers can in the end perform the similar operations. Even though, for every ten newfangled Web browsers or peer to peer file sharing programs that come out for the PC, there's just one ground-breaking, adaptable, and unwavering program for the Mac. So whatever happened to my dad and me at Best Buy? Turns out I have to wait until I get into college to get my own laptop or notebook! Well anyways, I still haven’t decided on which computer I think sounds better, although I’m leaning toward an Apple Mac. Which computer did you pick, an Apple Mac or a Windows Pc? btw, im in 7th grade
