Suggestion for PC gaming build? Wanting to diverge a little from my well used Ps3 over to PC gaming and already having a Dell Vostro 3500 notebook, im in search of a decent desktop gaming build. Im looking for a build capable of running the majority of the new games out there optimally with the settings ranging from medium to high. For point of reference; Skyrim for instance. The budget would be around 1250$-ish. Can go higher, though if any suggestions point to a cheaper build, it would be very much appreciated :) By build i mean a self-built rig, and a screen isn't really necessary :)

Need help buying a gaming notebook? after trying to get new video cards or RAM for my Dell inspiron 1545, I found out that I cant do that. Because I asked twice here and people explained this is impossible unless you have a notebook specfically built for that. So I looked around and one name came up on the top of google when I searched for "gaming laptops". Alienware. I've gone back there a couple of times and have decided to get the Alienware M17 notebook. I hear that they have very nice features such as thermal cooling, a fingerprint scanner, and the ability to update the video card. So this is what I have currently picked out- Memory: 4GB« Dual Channel DDR3 SO-DIMM at 1066MHz – 2 x 2048MB System Drive: Extreme Performance (RAID 0) - 500GB (250GB x 2) 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection Operating System (Office software not included): Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium (64-bit Edition) with Service Pack 1 plus Free Windows 7 Upgrade Option Video/Graphics Card: Dual 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3870 - CrossFireX™ Enabled! Processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9000 2.00GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) This is going to cost me about $1,889. Yeah it makes me cringe, too. But my question is do I really need this? I need to know if I can tone it down to be a little lighter on my wallet. (Im getting my first job, minimum wage isnt exactly going to make this process quick and easy). What I would like is to be able to run Assassins Creed, Gears of War, and Prototype at max graphics and resolution while getting 30 fps. Let me know if there is a cheaper way to achieve this
Should I Buy My Own Gaming Laptop Or Build My Own? I was wondering if i should buy my own gaming laptop or should i build my own? ok what i was looking at was getting a Dell XPS M1730 is that good or not? Or should I make my own and if you think that's what i should do (make my own) than can you give me a website that has everything I need to do to make my own such as what exactly i need to do like how to build it and everything needed to build it the game i was going to build was Guild Wars and i would like to have max requirements. BTW i only hav a limited budget (not much btw) and if you know of a cheaper just as good gaming laptop that would be great. sorry if this is long and confusing i just need to know what to do and answers excepted except stuff like "gaming laptops stink get a notebook" i don't want a note book or one that is not portable because im all ways moving. ANYWAY THANKS FOR THE HELP BEST ANSWER GETS A COOKIE!!!!!
Would it be cheaper to build a laptop from scratch or to simply buy it from a retailer? I need a gaming laptop, one that will be good for at least say another year or so, playing games on at least medium.. Right now I'm looking at this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/654516-REG/Gateway_LX_WEJ02_003_P_7908u_FX_Edition_Notebook.html Would it just be cheaper to build one of a similar caliber? Oh, and the budget is around $1000, give or take a hundred.
Can you help me buy a notebook? I sort of took up a nomadic life & I can't keep hauling a desktop around. It's nuts. I need a good, tough, cheap notebook. I watch movies sometimes, so a 15.4" screen is a good idea. Also, I take billions of digital photos, & am crazy about mix tapes. I might want to play some games sometime (I played Resident Evil the other day & nearly peed my pants, so I kind of want a scary game now). I think it's ok if I only have 80g - it makes me nervous to have everything all in one place & I don't mind a few USB drives. I hear good things about Toshiba, bad things about Dell, and can't afford a Mac. I don't want to spend a ton of money - maybe around $700USD. More or less is negotiable, but things change so fast it seems senseless to invest too much. I mean, none of them seem built to last, no matter how much I pay. What about processors, drivers, that sort of thing? What am I looking for? Please answer thoroughly, w/ specific examples and links to recommended models if possible. Thx! MacGeek, that's waaayy too much for something I can't pass down to my grandkids! I'm sure they are lovely, though. I'm not experienced enough with computers to know why Apple everything is purportedly superior. Why is it so expensive? Are there compatibility issues? Convince me it's worth the price of a used car and I will consider it. I would really love some details about why Macs are better, why Dells are acceptable, why a Toshiba is good. Do you know anything about the guts of the machines? If something is poor, why? Does the screen break, does the doodad come apart, does the B-9A Whatever have a stronger thingamabob? Something concrete to take to the electronics store.
College; I'm planning on going out of state for school and i cant decide for laptop/desktop? Continuing on my question, I am willing to spend about $1500 US. I am a gamer, and i think it'll be really tough to live without video games in college. So, i devised different ways in doing this and i need someone's positive opinion! 1. Buy a gaming laptop (preferably Asus G series - G51Jx/G72Gx/G71Gx/G73Jw) = $1000-$1500 2. Build a gaming desktop (of course for dorm) spending a good amount from 1500 for AMD black edition x2 555 or 1090t setup or Intel i7 930 or 950. (When i leave for home, i cant leave this lol) 3. Again, build a gaming desktop, and getting a cheap notebook for notes in class. $800 setup desktop and 700 laptop) 4. What's your opinion?!?!?!? Yes, i am one of those guys looking for the top of the line crap, as i was raised to aim for the best of the best lol. I don't like falling short of having the best. YES i will be using the computer and/or laptop when i get out of college because i will need it. YES, i have a car, and i will be willing to bring these things to and from home/college when i leave. I Was also looking @ Asus' UL Series, and i think 4 pounds on a weight on a laptop would be ideal! :) 800 bucks as well
Very Confused! Which Notebook Is Best For Me? I have a £600 budget and I am looking for a good, helpful and cheap notebook provider. I need the notebook for quite a few things. Starting with the simple things I want to be able to surf the net, word process, use MSN and play music. More high end things I like to play a wide variety of online games, play a few CD games, view and basically edit images, view, burn and edit music and films, website build using Dreamweaver and finally I am looking for an XP system with good screen, battery and wireless.

Alienware m15x? I am planning on getting a 15" gaming/multimedia notebook. I am looking at the Alienware m15x. I have heard good and bad things about this notebook. I have read some pretty bad stories about it, mostly about the build quality. The cheap plastic doesn't bother me, but what does is the possibilty of pieces falling off, the plastic breaking and snapping, and terrible customer service. Can anyone tell me how there expierences have been? Are these problems just from early adopters? Can anyone else recommend me a good 15" gaming/multimedia notebook?
Which is the better notebook - the new Dell Studio XPS 16 or the HP HDX 18t? I am looking for a Windows OS desktop replacement notebook, with a lot of multimedia power, great build quality, and good reliability, all for under $2000. I don't need it to be portable, although I would like to move around with it if necessary. I have researched extensively, and the two best notebooks I have found at this price range are the Dell XPS 16 and HP HDX 18t. I know that the Dell has some heat issues, although because I don't do any gaming, this shouldn't be a problem, especially with a cooling pad. The HP is massive - maybe too massive - and I have questions about the quality of HP (I have only ever owned Dell notebooks) as well as the really cheap looking chrome look. Does anyone have suggestions? I would also really like to hear from you if you own one of these notebooks, and have some idea of their quality, performance, etc.. Thanks. (Also - please no answers from Mac enthusiasts. Although I respect your opinions, I am not in the market for a Mac.)

Which new laptop should I buy on Boxing Day? It's difficult to see all my options, so I'm asking the community! Which laptop should I buy on Boxing Day? The "MSI M6275-419US Notebook" is roughly what I am looking for in a PC. Here's the link : http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5536346&csid=ITD&body=MAIN I found the following checklist on a notebookreview forum, General Questions: 1) What is your budget? Maximum of $1000 with taxes included. Less is always better, and on Boxing Day it should be reasonably less. 2) What size notebook would you prefer? 15" - 16" is fine. I'm not really too particular. 3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in. Canada 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? I'm not picky. As long as it generally has good reviews. 5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? Gaming (so a dedicated video card is nice. It would be cool to be able to play games like Left For Dead 2, but that's hard to find for under $1000 I think), MS Word, Streaming 6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? Occasionally, but that's not a big deal. 7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? Left For Dead 2, Warcraft 3, newer games if possible 8) How many hours of battery life do you need? Minimal; this is not that important to me. 9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? I buy online often. 10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Windows 7 preferred ! Screen Specifics: 11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? Widescreen 12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? Higher resolution is better, right? Widescreen preferred 13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Matte/non-glossy preferred, but it doesn't really matter. Build Quality and Design: 14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? No 15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? During boxing day sales, and it should last for 3 years minimum Notebook Components 16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB? More is better 17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive? DVD burner Please state any additional features you need. It's also helpful if you can indicate how experienced you are with computers. If you're a novice and don't know how to answer some questions just say so! 2 gb would be nice, but I can upgrade later if itcosts too much to include it. RAM is often cheaper when you pout it in yourself ! I know more than most of my friends about computers, and know most of the lingo, but can't be considered a guru. I have built a few desktop pcs in the past. Thanks again! I am looking forward to the recommendations! Happy Holidays, eh!
Laptop comparison for gaming? Purely for gaming performance, which choice is better? 1) AMD A6 with built in Radeon 6650m http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-K53TA-SX026V-Fusion-Notebook.62849.0.html 2) Intel i5 with GT540m http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-K53SV-SX131V-Notebook.56057.0.html AMD choice is roughly $150 - $200 cheaper than Intel + Nvidia choice. If Intel + Nvidia is better, is it worth the price premium, or is it only ever so slightly better that its not worth it? Thanks in advance.
Buying new laptop: Advice? Hi all. Looking for some advice. I have finally decided to retire my Dell D600 from 2004... If you have any advice on suggested laptop models, please reply. Thanks in advance! Criteria are below: - under $1000 - 13 to 15 inch screen - 4 GB ram - at least 1GB dedicated graphics card - cd/dvd drive (blue ray not needed) - can be new or manufacturer refurb. optional, but desired features - media card reader multi - no OS I realize it might be kinda hard to find a no-OS laptop. If it's cheaper I would go that way, but if it's more worth it to just get one, then I would go with a Win 7 rig. I have copies of Win 7 and XP both. I am looking to be able to play current games with ease, otherwise just regular stuff. It's also entirely possible my listed requirements are too strict. Let me know. Thanks!! Additional info: 1) What is your budget? Under 1000 2) What size notebook would you prefer? 13-15 inch 3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. USA 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? doesn't matter 5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? yes, absolutely. 6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? gaming, internet, watching dvds, photo editing 7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? 70/30 desk/on the go 8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? Dragon Age 2, Crysis, GTA IV, Dirt 2 and 3, Civ 5 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? at least 3. prefer 4+ 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? no need to see it. 11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc. no OS, or Windows 7. Screen Specifics 12) 1600x900 best, otherwise 1440x900, last 1366x768 13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? prefer matte but can do any. Build Quality and Design 14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? not so much 15) When are you buying this laptop? ASAP 16) How long do you want this laptop to last? as long as I can make it go Notebook Components 17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Cheap netbook? The best for Internet? I don't play any games on laptops or notebooks, so if it can't do that, that won't be a problem. I go on places like YouTube and Tumblr the most (for people that don't know, Tumblr is just like a website to blog pictures and stuff like that). I'm not rich or anything, so, this is going to be hard I know, my price limit is only up to $200, maybe $250. I've found one that's $150 before (someone bought it before I could though) so I know it's not impossible! That's good haha. I'd like a built-in webcam with it, and the color doesn't really matter. I need it to be relatively fast seeing as I use the Internet a lot, and finally the screen needs to be at least 10". I found one that was 7" and really cheap, but the screen was just too small for me.
Does Alienware Make the Best Gamer Laptop? I've been on Y!A in the computer section for over a year now, answering questions and helping people with problems. I may be in the market for a good laptop computer here soon. I have been doing my homework. I am comparing prices, features and warranties. I have never owned a laptop before, and frankly, the reason why is because I have heard so many BAD things about them - especially, when something goes wrong...the lousy warrenties, the cheap builds, the hype cover ups on second rate parts. So I stuck with desktops. But now, I am seriously thinking of getting a laptop and I would like to have your advice. I have heard that Alienware makes the best gamer laptops. But in searching the net, I have run across a few other name brands: Schenker Notebook CLEVO Notebooks Is Alienware really the best? Who owns one here? How about these other ones. Compare the XPS Dell's. Compare HP. How about Gateway, Asus, Acer...etc? Who has the best gamer, the best warranty, the best parts, and so forth? How about your experience with failed parts? How long do they last before they go kaput? I've asked similar questions now and have gotten very few answers. I need more INPUT from all of you, anyone who cares to remark (although, just saying a laptop is great or stinks, just doesn't cut it - WHY, is it great or WHY does it stink?) Come on, give me some help and advice. I NEED advice! Please answer this question and give me your reasons and whys? What should I be thinking of getting? I want to use it for business purposes and gaming both. That is why I am thinking of a gamer. It could go as high as $3000 - $4000 IF it is the right one for me. Sorry, but Yahoo Answers is not letting me post this on the Laptop Section..So I put it here.
I need the perfect laptop within my budget? Help guys, my dad agreed to buy me a laptop as a graduation gift. I'm from the Philippines, but my dad decided to buy the laptop in Riyadh since laptops there are way cheaper and because he works there. Please help me find the best laptop to buy within my budget range. I filled up some basic questions here. General Question 1) What is your budget? We are not rich hence the price would be.. I guess a maximum of $850 or SAR 3187.50 2) What size notebook would you prefer? About 14" to 16" I guess 3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. Like I've said I am from the Philippines but my dad wants to buy it in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? a. Like: Preferably Asus or Toshiba or Dell, but Acer would be fine too b. Dislike: Macs, I do not totally dislike it but it was way expensive and out of my price range 5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? No 6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? I will be using Photoshop and Illustrator with it and I'm also planning to study After Effects, Cinema 4D or 3DS Max, and Corel Painter on it. I guess that would need a lot of multi-tasking so i want it to have at least 4GB RAM 7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? Both, I don't care if it's heavy or not it doesn't matter. 8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? I'm not so much into gaming but I think the Graphics Card that I would want for it will be at least an nVidia GeForce 310M with 1GB vRAM, but maybe it would be fun if it can run Left4Dead and Modern Warfare or even at least PvZ on it. 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? About 3 to 4 hours or maybe longer 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? My dad doesn't want to buy anything via on-line 11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Windows 7 (64-bit) Screen Specifics 12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Actual resolutions: 1440x900 or higher 13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Any will be fine Build Quality and Design 14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Not really 15) When are you buying this laptop? By February I guess 16) How long do you want this laptop to last? 3 years or longer Notebook Components 17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive? 320GB SATA or higher, preferably 7200rpm but 5400rpm is fine. SSD would not be necessary 18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? DVD +/- RW Please guys help me, laptop models available in Riyadh that are posted will be much appreciated but those that are available in other countries will be fine too, it's just that it will be easier for us to buy the laptop if the model you recommended is available in Saudi Arabia. In SUMMARY the specs that i would like are as follows: PROCESSOR: at least Intel Core i3-370M or higher MEMORY: at least 4GB HDD: 320GB SATA (preferably 7200rpm but 5400rpm is fine) GRAPHICS: at least nVidia GeForce 310M with 1GB vRAM or higher graphics card (preferably supports CUDA and nVidia Optimus Technology but none would be fine as long at it still supports CUDA) SCREEN SIZE: 14" to 16" SCREEN RESOLUTION: 1440x900 WEIGHT: not important PRICE: maximum of $850 / SAR 3187.50 WHERE to BUY: Riyadh Stores recommended + laptop model and brand + exact price will be highly appreciated. hoping for your help guys. :D I forgot to add something on the summary. OPTICAL DRIVE: DVD +/- RW

Would a 2.3/2.4GHz i5 be better than a 2.2GHz i7? What is a Wave Keyboard? It’s not the one where the keys make a wavy shape. I am not bothered by: Battery life, actual size, bluetooth, card slots. Bluray would be nice, but its about the games. Price has no preference. I just added cheap labels to cheap ones for extra info. What would I gain from buying additional RAM? Can someone solve: 2gb dedicated graphics on i5 vs 1gb dedicated graphics on i7. Most (or all) of these above laptops with i7 have the recommended 4-cores for BF3 and Crysis 2. Can you try not to recommend NEW laptops because they will most likely be unavailable for me to try/purchase in Australia. Thanks heaps.

Will this computer run secondlife well? Well, as posted in an earlier question, I think that my graphics card is failing. Doing some research of my own, I discovered that getting the thing replaced will probably cost me just as much as buying a brand new laptop. Not as high quality as mine was when I got it (but the thing was a beast pricing out near $1500) So I'm looking to get a cheaper one for now just so I don't loose my business while in case the graphics card just goes kaput on me. So my question is, will this computer system be able to properly run SL for a handful of months until I can afford a more hi-tech laptop once more: Toshiba Black 15.6" Laptop Key Features and Benefits: AMD E-Series E-240 processor 1.5GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 3GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory (expandable to 8GB) Gives you the capability for multimedia videos and images, video conferencing, basic gaming and all the other simple duties 250GB SATA hard drive Store 166,000 photos, 71,000 songs or 131 hours of HD video and more SuperMulti DVD Burner Watch movies, and read and write CDs and DVDs in multiple formats 10/100 Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Connect to a broadband modem with wired Ethernet or wirelessly connect to a Wi-Fi signal or hotspot with the 802.11b/g/n connection built into your Toshiba notebook computer 15.6" widescreen TruBrite TFT display AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics with 384MB-1459MB dynamically allocated shared graphics memory

What are the best laptops under $700? I'm currently in the market to get a laptop with better specs and high performance for things such as gaming and streaming. The laptop I have now just isn't getting the job done. These are the specs I'm looking for: Quad Core 2.3 ghz (or more) 15.6 inch screen 1366x768 screen resolution 4gb or more RAM 630gb hard drive (or larger) Decent battery life (5 or more hours, but this isn't that important) Blu-Ray player (I'll probably have this laptop for at least 4 years, so I need to be ahead) A genuinely good build that feels good in your hands and doesn't look cheap. At the moment, my best option seems to be the HP dv6 series (I'll post a link below) but I'm sure that I might be able to find something a bit more affordable. Thanks! How can I improve/mod my computer to run smoother? My computer constantly overheats. I also lag sometimes while playing games. I already lower my settings on my computer and the game. I also only run the game and no other programs. I also having a laptop fan, but it isn't keeping up. That when I added a real fan, to directly cool off the computer. THAT STILL DOESN'T WORK! I want to know if there are tweaks/programs to help improve my computer. I also want to know if there is a program that can make a 17" screen computer run like a 15" or smaller than a 17" to save that useless lag. Alienware M11x vs. Sager Np5125 vs. Vaio computers? I recently bought an alienware m11x. And I am regretting the decision now because I just bought it because it was cheap and I wanted something asap. Now I've been looking at the Sager Np5125 with these specs for 1000 bucks - 15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glare Type Screen - Standard Dead Pixel Policy - - 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-2520M, 2.5-3.2GHz, (32nm, 3MB L3 cache) - Stock Thermal Compound- - nVidia GT 540M 1024MB PCI-Express GDDR3 DX11 with Optimus™ Technology - No Video Adapter - ~ 4,096MB DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS) - Standard Finish - ~Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Software - ~ 500GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache) - No Additional Hard Drive in ODD Bay - When Selecting, Optical Drive is NOT Included - No Back Up Hard Drive - NO External USB Optical Drive - No Back Up Software - No Floppy Drive - Internal 4-in-1 Card Reader (SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO) - None Standard-- - Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Wireless-N 1102 - No Network Accessory - Built in 2.0 Megapixel Camera - No TV Tuner - Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included - No Carrying Case - NO Spare Battery - No Car Adapter - None Standard* - No Dock/Hub/Adapter - Integrated Fingerprint Reader - No External Keyboard or Mouse - No Notebook Cooler - ~Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Installed (64&32-Bit CD Included) w/ Drivers & Utilities CD's + Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - Included with OS Purchase - No Office Software - No Software Bundle - 3 Year Labor 1 Year Parts, Lifetime Sager Toll Free Tech Support - No Xotic PC Gear Or I've been taking a look at the sony vaio commputers for about the same price. I want something that is stylish yet not too flashy and geeky like the alienware, also portable, screen size 13. and over. 6 pounds or under. Sleek and a good computer for note taking in classes. The alienware is just too gamy in order to take notes on it even though I can it just feels weird. And it has good gaming capabilities the only problem with the alienware is the processor. So basically if you know any computer that is sleek, stylish, light, powerful and good note taking computers let me know
Can I run GIMP efficiently with an Intel Celeron 900 Processor and Windows 7? I am considering buying a laptop with an Intel Celeron 900 Processor because it's all I can afford at a pretty cheap price. I'm also a digital artist and I use GIMP. Can I run GIMP efficiently on a computer with these specs? COMPAQ Presario CQ60-615DX NoteBook Processor type: Intel Celeron 900(2.2GHz) Memory: 2GB Memory Graphics Card: Intel GMA 4500M Also, some information about Intel Celeron and other programs is appreciated, especially how Celeron 900 compares to the Intel Dual Core, and how Intel compares to AMD. Other programs I would like to know about are Firefox, Skype, computer games (Like the Sims), and any other programs I may be able to run with this system, like if I'm able to watch videos with no problem. Thank you so much! I know there are better computers out there but I'm running out of time with the computer I do have, so I have to spend what kind of money I have, so please no advice on laptop purchasing EXCEPT if you know a better build for under $400. Thanks again.
Should I get a laptop or a PC? I'm currently living away from home so that I can be closer to my university, yet when I do go home on the weekends to my ancestral home I don't have much more than internet access on the tiny little netbook my mom has, and I can't be bothered to lug around my Desktop PC back and forth on a weekly basis. Another question would be one of price, since I can get a laptop and go back and forth but for a cheaper price I could have a souped-up PC here and bring this pretty much OK PC back to my parents' house. A custom built Toshiba Satellite Laptop with these specs would cost $1,135.20 which I have to buy from abroad, with 1-year limited warranty. Alienware m15x vs m17x? Which one should I get m17x or m15x? Specs of my desired build for now are: Processor: Intel Core i7 - 720QM 1.60 GHz/ 1333 MHz, 6MB L2 RAM: 6144 MB (2048 MB + 4096 MB) 1333 MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Hard Drive: 640 GB Raid 0, 7,200 rpm (m17x) or 320 GB SATA-II 7,200 rpm (m15x) Video: Dual 1gb ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 1gb each (m17x) or Single ATI Mobility Radeon 5850 HD 1gb (m15x) Battery: 9-cell OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit) Considering the differences between the two notebooks, which one will be more rational to take. If I do not sacrifice a lot of gaming quality and performance with the m15x, I would honestly take it even if it is smaller because I can use a bigger monitor on it + it is easier for carrying + it is cheaper (I use external keyboard and mouse, so I do not care about the numpad, the size of the HDD does not really bother me either.)
Which laptop should i buy? I am stuck deciding between these two laptops. Please help! The only differences are that the Gateway is cheaper then the Acer. The Gateway has a Core-i3 2310M which is a 2nd gen. core-i3 and the gateway has a core-i3 370m. But here's the catch, the Gateway has a dedicated ATI graphich card good for gaming. And the Acer uses the built-in INTEL HD 3000 integrated graphic card. Here are the links: Gateway: http://www.thesource.ca/estore/Product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=Notebooks_English&product=2510391 Acer: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/acer-acer-aspire-15-6-laptop-featuring-intel-core-i3-2310m-processor-as5750-6084-black-as5750-6084/10163435.aspx?path=bf1c5186699f12d6e9ef709602a1f198en02 P.S. The Gateway is cheaper than the Acer
What's the cheapest laptop that fills my needs? Hi, I am looking to sell my macbook (estimated value - £200-£300) and am changing over to a PC laptop or powerful netbook/notebook. Of course I can add money to the amount I get from selling my MacBook but preferably as little as possible. Here are the specifications I need it to have: Windows 7 (if netbook, Windows 7 Starter is fine) Dual core processor (at least, maybe Dual Core 2 or i3) minimum 3GB DDR2 RAM or 2GB DDR3 250GB Hard Drive (at least) Built in webcam Wi-Fi 802.11n More than 2 USB ports So to sum up it needs to be fast, that's the main priority, as it will be running memory hungry programs such as Realmcrafter, 3DS max, blender and other game design/development and 3D modelling programs. Best Regards Harry @ ton ton - i never said I was getting a cheap laptop I said what is the cheapest laptop I could get, if i wanted you to spam my question with a pointless answer, i would have asked you to
