Great gaming laptops? Alright, so it's almost time for me to buy a new laptop. right now all i have is the Acer Aspire One notebook, i bought on a whim after my old laptop broke beyond repair (thank you little cousins.) And i hate it. It was cheap so of course i wasn't expecting much, but still, it's total crap. Now i am ready to buy a brand NEW laptop. With it, i want to be able to buy one that can hold the sims 2 and ALL expansion packs, WoW and IMVU. Plus able to hold a lot of memory and a great graphics card. I also want it to be able to run the internet fast and effectively. I have high speed internet and i can't even use it to the fullest. I am a HUGE online player and a gamer, so please, any suggestions? i won't lie, i'm pretty computer dumb, so i don't get the whole "duel processors" and "core" stuff. so can you give me a few options and explain to me Why it is good, with as much simple detail as you can give? I really hope to find a great gaming laptop :)

Why does my computer suddenly turn off ? Ive got an Asus g51jx gaming notebook with pretty neat specs. To say it like it is the whole impression is not very neat....ive had it to repair two times in 9 month both motherboardfails, first one they just changed the whole motherboard and the secon time they switched the whole i/o board for my headphonejacks n stuff, so out of nine month 1 and a half has allready been wasted due to computerfails. Now something is happening again. Some times,JUST sometimes it have happend to me 3 times over the past three weeks, my fans starts to buzz like crazy while im gaming, i havent even been playing for an hour and boom it shuts of.....just instantly, no warning, no bluescreen....no nothing. When i turn it of the fan buzz like crazy for 10 second and everything is back to normal. Whats wrong ? May it be the motherboard again, cuz im really hoping it is....since then i can reclaim my money that i spend on this stupid piece of ****..... Peace out :P Well the computer is "only" nine month old :P the varanty hasnt even expanded yet "expired"

Best Multitasking,Gaming laptop? Recently, my notebook had crack on the hinge and everytime i would flip it open, it would make that crack bigger...and yea it happened. I cant open the lid anymore without the hinge bending, decoloring, and stretching the screen, cant have that right? soo i went to go see how much the repairs would be worthh and they said they couldnt fix it, and since its an older model, finding the parts for it would be pricey, and considering the age of the comp, its completely outdated and would better used for parts. So i wanna get a new one, but i do alot on it so what would be best for multitasking, like videos from youtube, while playing a web game without and computer lag, i also want good graphics card for playing games for example at most, GTA 4, or COD:MW. and i wanna stay under the price of 1000$, a lil over is ok but not like another 200$. I did a bit of research myself and found the Sony Vaio, never used one, never seen one in use, never thought of buying one. so im not to confident about buying it. someone give me some ideas, and for a comp more then 1000$, i want it to last obviously. Thanks ~ Ok, Alienware is awesome, no doubt, but i dont want something thats made to sit in one spot and every once in awhile be moved. I want something that i can carry with me all the time, and maybe if im lucky, have time to play a game or two,web games, a quick game of a Downloaded Pvp game, you know, something like that. Alienware, In the top 3 brand of computer to choose from.
How to get better gaming results? Hey, I'm planning on giving my little brother a fairly old laptop (Two or more years old) because I just don't use it anymore. The problem is I can't improve the gameplay results. I've tried: Closing all unnecessary background programs (I mean like everything), repairing registry, disk defragmenting, Turning settings to their lowest possible, freeing up space, yet all don't seem to have helped much. I'm confident that the computer is capable of running the games (Saints Row 2, Tf2, CSS) because there a breaks within the massive lags where all is smooth. Could you please help me to get rid of this? My situation I really need your suggestions, info, links, et cetera to get me break away from this computer addiction please. I have been living with computer since its advent, and I have been too long in this bit and byte world. I have almost no problem with my family and/or social matters (maybe), but certainly, I have problems with myself. I realize that my addiction to computer and internet has seized big values of my life. Please do not assume that I am addicted to the gaming, gambling, chatting, or sexual leisure online. I think I have really got the most of the computing and internet, I got answers for my quests in life: history, languages, hobbies, health, skill improvement, and other eye-openers, but I realized that at the end I just barely do not recognize myself. I knew that before the PC arrival, I was a simple human with a romantic and artistic mind inside, and then later I evolved to such a robot, to be precise: a slave of the technology. The internet had made me more tied to the PC, at first it delivered me the news of the world, marvelous things found there within the clicks and so on, but then made me deep drown into the pond of information. The cost and the lost Having knowledge to computer hardware made me always upgrade my gears. It made me spend big cost just to fulfill my lust over those times. My room is full with the old gears, gadgets, and things from online stores. My PCs and notebooks are full with MP3s, PDFs, and many things downloaded both free and paid. I also spent for many external/ portable harddisks for backing up and traveling. I do not mean to showoff, I just tell you how worse it was from time to time during about 20 years. I sometimes think about the lost time for repairing my gears, updating my softwares, browsing; and how many books that I have not read completely. There was a break One time, in two straight months last year, I spent my times with my son playing Tamiya, small racing cars in small tracks. It was wonderful that it made me totally forgot my computers. We have had most of the time together for racing, modifying, winding the wires for the tiny motors, etc. My wife was so amazed that the toys have made me away from the PC. It ended because of the coming rainy season that made us packed and boxed back the tracks and cars, and I simply switched back to the old routine. In search of healing I remember a precious phrase: Two kinds of those who lost; they are who looks for wealth and for knowledge. This phrase sometimes wakes me up but bad habit is addicting and I found myself always returned into that path. I think it is just similar to drug addiction. As the internet is an endless resource, I search through it for the cure, and I have found some articles about it and tried to implement them, but it always hard for me to liberate myself from my habit. I really hope that finally I find it in this forum, especially from you. Your helps, Please I know that some of you are familiar to manage some types of dependence, or maybe you have healed from the same situation. Whether you have some psychological, spiritual expertise, certain medication, or exercises, please share your advice, I need it badly. I do not want to clog the rest of my life in that digital world. There must be somebody else also in pain from the same thing, your kind suggestion will be very valuable and it will save some life. Thank you very much for sparing your time reading this lengthy note. God bless you. PS: I post this in Computing & Internet, Health, and Social Science with time interval, hoping to net more inputs. Please do not waste your time to put any unpleasant or unnecessary words, consider it will not only read by me but also by the other fellow readers. If you are not in the same situation with me, you perhaps still have the advantage of knowing the answers. Thank you, again.
Video Hardware Error? I just had my notebook repaired by the good people of Asus (they do it for free and everything) and when I received my laptop back yesterday I found they had replaced the motherboard in order to correct the problems I had been having. Everything else stayed the same, and they did not format my HDD or anything. While I was playing WoW today I received a strange error I've never had before with my old motherboard. The screen went blank, my computer beeped at me and this message came up (the game itself, did not crash): Description: A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly. Problem signature Problem Event Name:LiveKernelEvent OS Version:6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID:1033 Files that help describe the problem WD-20080621-0926.dmp sysdata.xml Version.txt
How to reformat from window vista premium to XP to install? Vista is slowere than XP.? Hello! I recently have bought new Sony Vaio laptop notebook of 1.60 Dual Core of 1GB Ram and 120 G hard disk with window vista home premium edition, but it is very slow than even in 1 GB memory. I also don't need a lot of junk program of window vista, game and media stuff. I removed many programs , and yet it is not that faster. Instead of upgrading into 2 GB Ram, I want to install XP home or professional. User guide shows in the Help and support that I have to reformat to older version of operating system of XP. I am no expert. Anyone out there who knows how to do it by myself instead of going to repair shop?
How do I get Microsoft Flight Simulator X to work on my laptop? I have an HP Notebook with a lot of disk space on it. My computer runs on Vista. I was able to install the game, but when when I went to play it, my computer didnt recognise that it had been installed, and the instalation process didnt put a shortcut to the game on my desktop.I clicked on the start button to see all programs on my laptop, and I couldn't find FSX on there, yet when I search it up on the start button, there were files for the game. I put the disk back in the laptop and it recognized that it had been installed and asked me if I wanted to repair the game or unistall it. Would you help me to escape from my computer addiction please?
Opening cyber cafe business.? In a year and a half, I'm going to be opening a Cyber Cafe. It will serve as a LAN gaming center, used for multi player games. All gaming and Internet hours will be on a point scale (free items will be determined by points) All computers will be in private booths. I will offer Silver, Gold, and Platinum memberships. It will also serve as a low-class restaurant. The restaurant side will provide free Internet access for the convenience of my guests-one must supply his or her own notebook-with in-room wireless access. My strategy is to include this establishment with computer repair service, computer sells, web-design services, programming classes, and many other technology related services. First week, Internet & gaming access free to all guests; also, free coffee and donuts: Pizzas will be sold for $2.50 & drinks will be free. I want to know if any of you can share some promotion ideas. Thanks.

What is wrong with this laptop? I have my older brothers laptop with me, which I use for gaming, as I am an avid gamer. But this thing...is the most dis-functional heap of technology I have ever had the displeasure of trying to fix. The files n my games are constantly becoming corrupted no matter how many times I reinstall them (It's obviously not the games as I do have them installed on another computer). Now the thing is, I have run countless scans with various different programs (not at the same time). Such as Avast!, Malewarebytes, GMER, TDSSKiller, and Combo fix. They all come up clean. No viruses. No Maleware. No rootkit. Not only do things become corrupted on a regular basis, but I also get constant BSoDs that do not give me a specific error. Adding onto that, I have to constantly run startup repair to get this thing up and running. I haven't the slightest clue of what the problem could be, because whenever I come to think I have solved my problems, they return in a couple of hours. Now, before you make any suggestions...I have some things to say: 1. Do not suggest a system restore, this thing has been like this since I received it from him, there are no previous system restore points. 2. Do PLEASE suggest a virus scan that is well know for finding thousands of viruses, as well as screwing up your registry. I know it sounds weird, but that virus scanner had solved my problems before, but I have no idea what its name is. What can I do to increase my Internet speed after trying every practical solution I could find? Ive been through at least half a dozen wireless routers in my life so far, from your cheapest choice at Walmart to the Best Gaming Router at the time in extremely high price ranges. Right now I'm using a Linksys WRT54GS2 at the location I'm having troubles at. We just recently got fed up with the slow internet after realizing that 5+ people using one internet connection for things like 360 Gaming, World of Warcraft PvP, HD Netflix and Massive Torrenting via the cheapest plan from Road Runner just wasnt the best idea. So we upgraded from Lite to Standard and were told we should be getting 7 mb/s within a half hour or so. Sounded fine to me, if it was anything of an increase from the lite id give it a try for a while. 3 hours go by and No difference. I get a little smarter and run a series of 50 tests from speedtest.net and pingtest.net averaging the speeds.. it was obsurd. We never went above 0.88 mb/s. Was this REALLY what we were using all this time? Impossible. So, we called them back and complained, describing our mb/s. After being curtious and kind to the utmost, and transferred 3 times before finally landing in the hand of someone willing to help, the person on the other end of the line explained she would give it a good "kick" from her end and see if it made any noticable difference. After going through the procedures 3 times in a row of disconnecting router, then modem, then pc, each time, the speed result got faster from the ohio roadrunner speedtest link they sent me to for results.. going up to 1.3 at first runthrough.. then up to 3.5 the second runthrough and finally up to 6.6ish mb/s on the third and final procedure runthrough of rebooting the devices. I was told at this point: "Well, sir, 6 mb/s seems rather acceptable at this point, dont you think? Perhaps we shouldnt ruin a good thing while weve got it." ... I agreed that this was more than acceptable coming from 0.6ish up to 6.0ish,, even if it was settling for less than my neighbors connections with the same plan. So, I commence a new set of 50 speedtests from both the Roadrunner speedtest site and speedtest.net and compare/average out the results... The results were puzzling. The fluctuation made no sense and was almost impossible at times it seemed, as I would go from 2.0 mb/s one test, and then 31.0 mb/s the next! slowly averaging out to 5.4 mb/s overall. Now, as a week and a half has gone by since the upgrade and tests, Its gone back to fluctating only between .6 mb/s and 2.6 mb/s.. Did I mention I ran separate tests? Three kinds in fact. A series of wireless speedtests, ethernet cord to the router speedtests, and then plain ol ethernet cord from the modem to the laptop test. The average stayed the same. That seems even more puzzling. Is it even the router to worry about anymore now? I doubt it, since the slow speeds are the same on a mac, a desktop and a laptop. Overall i have probably done over 600 tests or more with them all jotted down in a notebook. I usually solve my problems through the google searching of other peoples questions related to mine.. but this time, Im asking a question myself. I hope someone can give me any information on what could be wrong. I have 2 certificates in computer care/maintenance/upgrade/repair, so im up to the task of anything major.. I'm just rather plain spoken about computer problems n such. Thanks in advance! - Rick My speeds when using a wired connection are the same. Im always within 6 feet of the wireless router, no longer than a 10-12 foot ethernet cable Maybe when our Mac uses internet.. (it doesnt like the mac wirelessly for some reason). This router actually has 2 Internal antennas so i doubt i could use the can idea, although that does sound like a great idea normally! As far as the ISP goes, I have faith in them because 60 miles east of here, I pay for my own quadrant on the highest cost plan time warner cable roadrunner offers.. super turbo something rather.. on the big gaming router i mentioned.. out there i get blazing instantaneous everything. Perhaps it will take a new router and/or upgrading to one of the 2 higher plans roadrunner offers to experience good connections similiar to my other location? As I said, my neighbors have perfectly fine internet, with the same plan, and the same uses for internet basically (gaming). Mind you, when these tests were undergone, No internet usage was occuring.. I understand the internet will be slowed when theres torrenting and this and that coming from every direction, but that is not the case since ive upgrade and the problem has presented itself. It has occured to me that I notice a significant increase in Internet speed at Night... perhaps when most other people are offline due to having lives? (lol). Im wondering, is it possible Im being outmatched in internet absorption by others around me? I read somewhere that Roadrunner is capable of letting this happen.
Anyone else having start-up problems with HP laptops with Vista? I have a HP Pavilion dv9335nr Notebook PC. It runs games perfectly, the internet works, no problems with anything except... If I shut down my computer, when I start it up again I get a blue screen and I have to restart again. And when I restart it, it takes me to a "startup repair" thing (which I guess is specific to Vista since I never saw it with Windows XP) which takes me through a (literally) 20 minute process of "repairing" and "searching for solutions" and then asks me whether I want to restart normally or restore my system to previous, working settings. With either of these choices I have gotten the blue screen again, occasionally it will work and my computer will start up. So, what I have resorted to is putting my laptop on 'sleep' when I am done instead of shutting down. Which lets it start up normally. However, I can't close the laptop when I do this, causing dust and other things to get in the keyboard... Anyone know what I should do?

Is it worth repairing the laptop? Hi my dad has a Compaq CQ-61 220SV with Intel Dual-Core Pentium T4200 CPU 2.0Ghz and 4GB ram,250GB 7200RPM HDD but has a dead battery and a broken screen. We are going to trade my working netbook with his laptop (I will hook it on monitor). Is it worth fixing it?I will need a new screen and a battery.I have tried many games on it with Windows 7 Ultimate X86.It could handle Need For Speed Pro Street at max. settings on 1920x1080 resolution,Colin McRae Dirt 2 on med. settings @1920x1080 and can play 1080p video without any lags.Is it worth repairing it and buying a new battery (I guess it will be at least 150 euros for both) to repair it and use it as an everyday laptop and take it with me on trips? We bought the laptop 700 euros. It was top-line @that moment.I was going to build a desktop for 300 euros (With Intel Core i3,4GB ram,no GPU) but now this idea came up and I'm thinking it a lot. Say I decide to fix it.Can I buy a screen off ebay for 60 euros (not 100 that sell it in Greece) and replace it myself?Btw I'm 13,and We had that laptop since 2009.It brings back memories and is very good looking. Full details of laptop : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01770394&product=3984823&lang=en Comparing it with a Acer notebook with Pentium T4400 3GB DDR3 ram and Athlon GPU from 2010 it just had 7 fps less on maxed out NFS pro street...
Why is my computer performing like shit? So my computer just got back from repair and when i am done installing all the drivers for my graphics card etc. (It's a notebook) They replaced the Hdd so i just reinstalled the Graphic card drivers windows updates etc. And when i play Leauge of Legends or minecraft and any other game i experience a huge fps diffrence from before the repair. DONT TELL ME ITS A VIRUS OR THAT I NEED TO UPDATE MY DRIVERS BECAUSE THATS ALREADY DONE!!! Ok, with that said i get half the frames i used to get. Before in Minecraft 100-170 fps. Before in Leauge of Legends 50-90fps Now: Minecraft: 30-60fps Leauge: 20-50 fps. Again it's not the drivers nor a virus because i just finished installing them and the computer was just reset to factory settings. And i can't use fraps without experiencing crazy lagg. The games a mostly stable with a few lag spikes but are unplayable with fraps which it REALLY wasn't before. I have a decent spec note book. i5 processor nvidia geforce 540, 4 gig ram. (It's an acer aspire 5472g). Also when it broke i dropped a heave book on the keyboard so is it something else hardware related?? They have replaced the Hdd 2 times now the first time it was terrible computer couldnt even start this time i get low frames.
need identification any real psychics want to help here? Possessions: Located was fragments of sleeping cushion, fragments of blue backpack, a yellow-green plastic poncho, parts of a brown sleeping bag, blue hairbrush, two plastic zipper bags, Six $100 bills, one $10 bill, one $5 bill, five $1 bills , green Eureka dome tent, blue-and-black Jansport backpack, green camping pillow, black belt with clinging long underwear fragments, Slumberjack sleeping bag, empty Tylenol bottle, eight multicolored butane lighters, one magnifying glass, one compass, fingernail clippers, bell, spoon, pepper spray, 20 packages of Camel unfiltered cigarettes, Butane stove with two fuel cans, sweetwater water-filtration kit, pocket-sized Battleship game, round red-and-blue canteen, two green plastic military-style canteens, pair of sunglasses, pair of reading glasses, silver Sharper Image binoculars, "4 in 1" Radio Shack game, two drinking cups, aluminum cooking pot, pair of tweezers, package of foam earplugs, package of razor blades, tent repair kit, pair of blue wool socks with duct tape around the toes, roll of duct tape, two National Geographic trail maps of the Flat Tops. Other: A pocket-sized, spiral notebook with a green cover with hand-drawn artwork depicting a heart and some figures inside the heart, including what appears to be a cat. The first page, addressed to "Lib," begins, "I should wait in case my situation here doesn't improve. This may be the end of my journey." "Would like for you to claim the body . . . services or memoreal. Cremation." The CBI found the next section illegible, although individual words such as "I" and "thought" and "favor" or "flavor" could be made out. On another page, more text could be discerned, but the CBI analysts said the writer's point is not clear. That sections reads, "Third choice take them up in a glider (I promise not to get sick on you," before becoming illegible. Some common words - "this," "you" and "not" - are identifiable. On yet another page, the writing apparently goes, "ar on the . . . would you call her...d have it sent...you because I . . . want it to . . . where." Analysts also interpreted a recovered fragment to read, "be . . . er . . . my . . . s are going." Possessions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Case History The victim was located September 8, 2004, by bow hunters in a remote area north of Glenwood Springs. The site is in the drainage of No Name Creek at about 9,700 feet elevation, about 6 miles as the crow flies from Glenwood Springs, but 12 miles by the Transfer Trail out of town. The skeleton revealed no cause of death and the sheriff's office has been assuming it probably was natural. The man was found in a tent at a campsite in a wooded, remote location. His trousers had rotted away, but the date of currency found at his campsite indicates he apparently had been there no longer than five years. The letter leaves open the possibility the man was suicidal, although there is no reason to believe he killed himself. Perhaps he was terminally ill and chose to take his life. The man also could have succumbed to unexpected illness or injury while on an outing in the Flat Tops. Much about the case is conjecture, including a theory that the man entered the Flat Tops Wilderness at a trailhead on the north and hiked four or five days across elevations of 11,000 feet before setting up his tent on a southern drainage at about 9,700 feet. That theory is supported by two moisture-proof National Geographic trail maps of the Flat Tops with a route drawn across them to the area where the remains were discovered. But it's possible the man picked up the maps someone else had marked and left behind. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Investigators If you have any information about this case please contact: Garfield County sheriffs Office 970-945-1377, Ext. 1025 Or Crime Tips 970-384- 3625 You may remain anonymous when submitting information. Why am my computer performing badly? I just got back my notebook from reparaton (AGAIN!!) the second time in 1and1/2 month. First time it was fast when i got it back but then it broke again going really slow and overheating. Now its back, no overheating not slow- Except for in games! I get 30-40 fps less than i got before the last repair. Last time they replaced the Harddrive, this time they replaced the HDD (Whatever that is). Why is it performing so badly? The main 2 games i've ran is Leauge of Legends and Minecraft. I have a acer aspire 5472g with windows 7 home premium and a Nvidia Geforce 540m graphics card. I Also have a cooling pad. Ps. Can it be that the fan is full of dust?? Just a thought. Because the performance isnt as good as before but its playable but then i get sudden lag spikes and the computer gets hotter even tho i have a cooling pad. But it's not that hot. Before repair i got 170fps on minecraft on highest graphics and in Leauge of Legends i got 50-60 fps. In minecraft now i get 20-45fps and leauge 15-45 (mostly the lowest. Also because the hardrive got replaced i don't think it's a virus or anything considering i have installed almost nothing but video card drivers and such.

Could you help me find a new laptop sans Island keyboard? So after six or seven years of toil, my trusty old Toshiba Satellite is finally starting to degrade, and new parts would cost more than just getting a new laptop with a better screen/speakers. Anyways, I'd apparently been living under a rock so far as computers and components that make them up are concerned, and it's taken me about a month to catch up on whats considered 'decent' these days. That aside, I finally managed to finagle some new info into my brain, and strolled across an HP Dv6z Quad Edition. (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=See+all&v1=series&a2=Starting+price&v2=%24400-%24600&series_name=dv6zqe_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/All_laptop_&_tablet_PC_series/dv6zqe_series) Even if it's starting price is the price I'd like as the final price, I was willing to swing for it since I'm aiming for a computer that'll last me a good many years. Alas, there is one vast issue with this computer- the stupid keyboard. I literally can not STAND typing on island type keyboards, and even though I have smallish fingers, the arrow keys are unusable for me (a problem as I would like to be able to use the computer for gaming). Any and all computers that I come across that meet the standards I want, have this keyboard and are built so I'd stand not a chance going in and manually replacing it. Sooo, I'm currently looking around for suggestions of laptops sans those keyboards. Any and all input would be greatly greatly appreciated! What I'm using the laptop for- * Gaming (I mostly play RTS's and every so often a big name new game such as Assassins creed or dragon age) * Photography (editing pictures, storing pictures, uploading them online for clients) * Graphic editing (Using photoshop, basically the same programs as photography) * Music editing (I make musical freestyles for different sports, but mostly for dressage. The computer needs to be semi-durable and battery capable for when I'm carrying it around in horse field) What /has/ to be there- * at least 3 usb ports, preferably 4 (2.0 or 3.0 don't care) * cd/dvd drive * high def screen with realistic colors * at least decent speakers * A price tag under $800 usd * VERY solid hinges. I prefer a solid hinge (easier to repair) but can live with dual if they are unbreakable. I've not put any technical preferences because I'm still shaky on being 'in the know', and I'm capable of replacing parts if one or so isn't exactly up to par. Anywho, thanks for any replies!! :)
New motherboard for 2009 laptop? Easy? Thanks...? Here is the problem. My notebook is broken. The service man said the problem is in the vga-motherboard. He advised me to buy a new one, rather than repair it and I agree. So there are 2 options that I can think of, first buy a new notebook, which is easy. Second, how about just buy a new vga-motherboard just to replace the broken one, since it's cheaper and nothing else is broken. My question is: - Is it possible to do so? - Is it hard to do so? - Can I replace it to a newer motherboard with excellent graphic card to play games? If yes, is there any things I should know? Which one you thing as a better solution? Buy a new laptop of just buy a new motherboard? Thanks in advance Ah yes, he mean the integrated one (the one you can't change if broken, and need to replace the whole motherboard. right?) That's the one, sorry I forgot the term "integrated graphic card" So is it possible to replace just the motherboard? I mean I still have a working monitor, dvd rom, etc. Thanks

I have HP Pavilion DV6 2170 laptop which is loaded with Intel core i7 720QM processor Nvidia g 230 1 GB DD3 GPU and 5400 RPM HDD.I want to disable GPU to reduce the heating and i am not playing games any more on this laptop because this GPU is unable to haadle new Games like MW3 or NFS the run mostly i am watching the video from youtube or some time i am watching HD movies but no matter if i cannot watch these HD movies because now I have one more new laptop.well come to the point tell me guys how to disable this i know 1st generation core i7 is not come with integrated graphics so no support for switch able graphic but there should be some way to turn GPU on or off so guys help me out i am just doing it to reduce the heat dont tell me to use notebook cooler or clean the vents or update the drivers or bios because i already done all of things but nothing happened recently i updated my GPU drivers and now i have direct x 11 support(before DX 10) Guys i am afraid to lose or lost my laptop or some hardware failure with a lot of heat even you cannot toch the vents its extremely high temp i don't have temp gun to know how much is exactly even i am using laptop cooler which is also branded.before i thought maybe the vents are not clean and coz of dust or the fan is not in good condition so i sent my pc a repair shop and they show me all photo before service and after its was just a small dust vents were clears so i think there is no problem with fan or vent or laptop cooler.may be its a fault of design.by the way my OS is windows 7 servise pack 1.and the problem is from the begging but i was not taking it serious but now after buy new laptops and using friends old laptop i am afraid to lose a lot of money of this .
Can this laptop play Aion with VERY good requirments? It's just a VERY simple question; can the following laptop play Aion (under win7 OS, meaning the i7 can be used so that 2 cores are totally dedicated to the game) at VERY very good requirements smoothly? Looking for a small, lightweight laptop? I'm looking to buy a small, lightweight notebook this coming weekend (since it'll be tax-free weekend here) because my Acer is about to die. I'm being very picky about my new computer. I want something that has a 13-14 inch display, is very light weight (not more than 4 or 4.2 pounds) and has a decent battery life. I will not buy another Acer. Ever. So please don't recommend one! I've looked at HP, Asus, MSI, Toshiba, Sony, etc. Does anyone know which small laptops would be the best? What do you have? I'm not using it for gaming; mostly just for pictures and iTunes and surfing the web. I'm looking for something affordable (no MACs please!) and something that doesn't need to be shipped out of the U.S. to be repaired. Also, something that comes with a CD player would be great, but if that's not possible I can get an external drive for that. Thanks!! :) I'd rather it be smaller than bigger (Over 14.1 is too big!) and it will NOT be used for gaming. I ended up getting the HP DV4. It's really nice so far and has all the specs I wanted. Thanks for your input though!
Necessity for laptop in college? (Revised) HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Hello, it is August 4, 2010 today and I begin college on August 30, 2010 at CSU San Marcos. I will be commuting from my home 3 times a week which is about 40 miles away from school. My current laptop (HP Pavillion dv9700)'s network drivers and CD drivers do not work, because they cannot be detected. I have tried all possible ways to fix this with the resources I currently have. I do not have a warranty, and taking it to get repaired will cost me likely as much as $100-200+. Not only are my wifi and ethernet ports broken, my disc driver is broken too due to the compatibility issues of Vista + iTunes CD driver configurations. It is literally impossible for me to fix this computer, as I have already tried everything that I can. (I can't even system restore anyways, and never could make a system restore disc because the disc driver never worked since we got it). I also have several computers in my house. I have an old Sony Vaio that my mom uses for studying, my broken HP laptop, and this dell desktop that my mom is kindly letting me use for internet. The only cpu I am allowed to use with permission is the dell desktop, because it is used for my mom's work, and I am not allowed to download anything, or do anything on it except use it for internet. My question is, Do I need a laptop for college? I am an incoming freshman and am majoring in the Computer Science field. In about 2 years, I am planning on transferring to another school to continue studying Computer Science and/or pursue Aeronautical Engineering. Before, my HP pv9700 was struggling to keep up with the things I do, and also has many other problems within the computer itself(along with the recall). If I were to choose a laptop, I have planned on purchasing the Alienware m11x R1. My reason for choosing it is because I plan to use it for school, computer programming, watching movies, video editing, minor gaming, research, socializing with my friends, webcam, and other general uses. The computer is also small, light and extremely portable. I was also able to get a hands-on feel at my local BestBuy. Along with it's looks being appealing, small features such as the matte keys and smooth surface provided an ease with typing. I also found that the battery life, performance, portability issue, and function all fell under my needs. However my parents did not approve. They found other "visually attractive laptops" such as Toshibas, other Dells and some HP products to be a lot "better" for around $100-200 less. Their choices on the laptops had glossy sticky keys, they were around 15" in size or full keyboard(with numpad), and some of them were even heavy. My dad knows about as much as how CPU's work as I do(maybe even better), but my mom doesn't know too much about how CPU's work. I really like the Alienware, because not only is it visually stunning(IMO), it is a very powerful notebook for it's size and group genre. I was hoping to get the R2(or i-series core), but the R1's(with dual core) seem to fit my needs at a cheaper price. I understand my parents reasons for choosing what they chose, but I strongly believe that what I chose personally fits my needs best, especially for $100-200 more! As much as I really would love to get a the m11x, I am unsure if it will really be useful in college. I was wondering if it would be possible to make it through the first two years of college without a laptop. If my HP never broke, I wouldn't have gotten in this situation, and would be able to spend the money on other things, but it really looks like I need this laptop. It just sucks that my parents don't agree, and I will probably be stuck with something that won't benefit me as much as it could. The money I would be using(if i were to get a laptop) would be my parent's money. Sorry my question is a little confusing... but I wanted to provide as much information about the situation I am stuck in. (And if there were a way, how would I be able to convince my parents to side with me on the m11x?) Additional Details... :) To summarize it, I need a laptop that is small, light, powerful, and extremely portable that will perform admirably for exceeding demands and general use. I chose the m11x, but my parents refused and said I don't really need a laptop right now and can probably wait 2 years before getting a new one of my choice, or I can get a crap one now(their choice of laptop for around same price). Do I really need a laptop for college? Or will I be able to make it at least 2 years without one before buying one. I'll add more details later... Please help! Thanks! :D Should you come across this question, please spread it around, as I really need help... Here's the link to this question... http://tinyurl.com/laptop4college I revised this question because I think I put it in the wrong section. I hope this section will attract more attention and actually give me p.s. my 18th bday is coming up this month very soon
Windows 7 Home Premium, C: Drive Disk Check Consistency Issue at every starting screen? OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, I have a HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC x64-based with an AMD Turion(tm) II Ultra Dual-Core Mobile M620, 2500 MhZ, etc with Hewlett-Packard F.12 11/30/2009 , 500GB, 4 GB RAM and Boot Device is \Device\HarddiskVolume 1. I have had this laptop since August 22nd so it's been four days and it was purchased as refurbished (with a 90 day warranty) so I want to know if this issue is solvable or if it'll result in hardware failure. The programs/files I have downloaded in the past four days are Last.fm, Itunes, AVG Trial/Free Version 9.0, activated Norton Internet Safety, Power Iso, Winrar, a Nancy Drew Game, Ifran View, Foxit Reader and Google Chrome. I scanned my computer for rootkits (2 appeared in my Norton Internet Security program...? I don't know, but I got rid of them) and viruses using AVG about every day since I've purchased it and I've never had to force a reboot until the Disk Drive error showed up. I've often had to hold the on/off button during this frozen disk check screen once or twice until it let me hit the log-in screen. It says something like Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. To skip disk checking, press any key within (#) seconds. Usually it freezes at 1 second and does nothing and it ignores any keys I press regardless. On one instance, after I removed AVG (in hopes it had the corrupted file) I took a picture of the monitor and it said: something open volume for direct access. something cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software. The system restore feature from the control panel to restore to a point prior to the corrupt software package installation. Error occurred (768f8c78something along these lines 3f1). I'm unsure where to go about this, my refurbished laptop didn't come with a Win 7 restore/repair CD, and I don't want to have to call Support unless none of you have any knowledge on this issue. My dad (who bought this as a gift) is weary of returning it so soon, assuming that I messed it up again. Help me out on how to fix it? I cannot run disk-checks/schedule them or do a system restore because it says Local Disk C:/ has a corrupt file. I tried to press F8 at startup and it didn't go into safe mode (?) but I might have pressed it at the wrong time of reboot I don't know. Help?

Oh, and THANK YOU! for answering! :D I just hope more people respond too. p.s. my 18th bday is coming up very soon too... I'm paying for it and can pay up to $1.5k, but I'd like their permission first. I have to decide wether I should spend it now for something that I need and don't have... or save it for future tuition... (Keep in mind, there are no computers/laptops that I can use at home or take with me)

I want a new laptop. Which is better option? ? I posted earlier a question between a Gateway and an HP. The HP was the most voted. Why is my new computer running slower so soon? My computer's fan was really crap, about half a year after i bought it kept overheating and shutting itself down. So i got it repaired, bout now, 2 months later, my computer is getting slow and very hot again when i try to play cod modern warfare 2 (game). I also noticed it cant run the game smoothly as it did when i first bought it, as it now has some slowdowns and framerate drops, whereas it runs completely smooth when i first bought it. The computer is HP notebook Pavilion i5 core with 2g ATI graphics card. The specs are more than enough to run the game smoothly so why is this happening? I only had it for 8 months Could the laptop heating up affect its performance?
Geek Squad ADH Plan: Will they try to cheat me? I bought an HP notebook 3 years ago and the ADH service plan. In two months my plan is up and I want to get in all the repairs that I can. My laptop flickers, My battery and cord need to be replaced, I may need a new hard drive, I keep getting blue screens etc. There is a lot of work to be done... I have only replaced the battery once and that was the only time I used the plan. What should I expect? I want to get the most out of Geek Squad that I can. I know they are going to try to play with me when I take it in. Every time I ask them what all my plan covers, they don't directly tell me this, this and that. They play games. The laptop has been dropped a few times over the years, most of the issues are from wear and tear.
I need help picking a laptop!!! What should I get? so I've been looking at all brands of windows notebooks. I looked at consumer reports of brand reliability and frequency of repairs, but I'm not sure how much I can rely on those. I am looking for a laptop between14 and 16 inches with a good battery life. I don't care about weight. I don't need a lot of hard drive space, but I would like a big system memory, How much do I need? I also don't know what kind of processor I need? I don't play online games or do any graphic programs, but I watch online videos. I also need a CD rom drive, or whatever it's called :) Please help! Any well informed suggestions or inputs would be wonderful on any area
Lenovo G560 and Intel HD Graphics? I have a Lenovo G56 with integrated Intel HD Graphics and I am not the smartest one when it comes to computers. But I was wondering if I can upgrade the processor or graphics card at all because I like to play games and I dont really like how the games dont run really smooth on this laptop and I dont want to spend so much money on a new computer. I was thinking of upgrading to one of these if possible : http://www.intel.com/products/laptop/processors/index.htm Lenovo G560 Specs: http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/pdf/notebooks/Essential/G-Series/G560%20datasheet.pdf Processor i3-330M processor (2.13GHz, 3MB L2 Cache) Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium Video Graphics Intel® HD graphics with dynamic frequency ***I quickly looked up the specs of my laptop on google and those specs are slightly better than what I actually have, mine is seems slightly downgraded I guess you can say I dont see any where on my laptop that I have an i3 processor. No HDMI port or glossy finish (not that it matters) but my "real" specs are a bit lower.**** And also my laptop is in for repairs so I cant post the "real" specs
Help?
