Should I Buy My Own Gaming Laptop Or Build My Own? I was wondering if i should buy my own gaming laptop or should i build my own? ok what i was looking at was getting a Dell XPS M1730 is that good or not? Or should I make my own and if you think that's what i should do (make my own) than can you give me a website that has everything I need to do to make my own such as what exactly i need to do like how to build it and everything needed to build it the game i was going to build was Guild Wars and i would like to have max requirements. BTW i only hav a limited budget (not much btw) and if you know of a cheaper just as good gaming laptop that would be great. sorry if this is long and confusing i just need to know what to do and answers excepted except stuff like "gaming laptops stink get a notebook" i don't want a note book or one that is not portable because im all ways moving. ANYWAY THANKS FOR THE HELP BEST ANSWER GETS A COOKIE!!!!!
Help with gaming PC components? I'm gonna buy a new custom-built Alienware m17 or m15x gaming notebook, but I need to be sure of how I'm gonna buy it. I know about all the different components, but some things have me confused, for example: 1. Which is better: a 3.2 GHz single-core, 2.8 GHz dual-core, or 2.26 GHz quad-core processor and by how much? 2. Do I need a faster processor for 4GB RAM than for 2GB RAM? 3.Do dual graphics cards need a faster processor or more RAM than single graphics cards? 4.Will a dual-layer blu-ray drive read game CD's and DVD's slower than an 8X dual-layer DVD-ROM drive? 5. Do i need a faster CPU or more RAM for multiple hard drives? 6. Does the built-in digital TV tuner need anything else (cable\satellite subscription, antenna) to receive channels? Also, if you have any recommendations for components like processor types/speeds, graphics cards types, etc., to be able to run the latest graphics-intensive games, please tell me. Also, please answer only if you actually know what you're talking about because that's a couple thousand bucks I'll be throwing down the drain if I order a laptop with parts that won't work right together. Thanks. I have a $3000 limit. maybe up to $3500 I know I might sound like an idiot (cause I do know about computers), but I needed to dumb myself down to make sure I got all the info I need; its better than pretending like I know everything and not getting any info.
need help with buying a gaming laptop for diablo 3? i want to buy a gaming laptop so i could play diablo 3 and only diablo 3, so i don't want a really high end, expensive computer, just enough to play diablo 3 on high settings. i would buy a desktop but i am going to college next year so i am not buying a desktop and a laptop for college. here are the specs for diablo 3 http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-system-requirements and here is the laptop that i am thinking about from cyberpowerpc http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Xplorer_X7-8100_Gaming_Notebook/ 1. is cyberpower reliable for building laptops and do they build it for me or do i have to build it?? 2. on the diablo 3 specs it says i need a 2.4 ghz processor for recommended settings but this processor only has a 2.3 ghz, how can that be i now that newegg sells i3 processors that have a 3.0ghz while this is an i7, shouldn't it be much faster?? and if you know any better options please let me know. thanks!!!

What kind of laptop for gaming should I buy tonight? I'm having a hard time picking one for the following two reasons. First, I can't find one with a powerful enough graphics card It seems. I have an 8800GT in my current rig, and nothing I research seems to match or beat that. That 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT doesn't look like it will cut it on the HP HDX18t, and the ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 - 512MB benchmarks on the Dell aren't any better. Second, I'm worried about huge resolutions. Yes that included full high def screen is nice, but that 1920x1200 native resolution is going to kill my FPS! I know when you don't run native on an LCD, everything looks blurry. Thanks! General Questions 1) What is your budget? About 1500 max bottom line. I will use financing. Don't forget that a quick Google search can reveal coupons up to 20% off, and some up to $500 off. Also, you can find programs where if you buy through a certain website's link, like Treasure Trooper or something, you get a small percentage back. So potentially, I can get a 2000 dollar laptop down to my price range. 2) What size notebook would you prefer? 15-17"+ screen. I would prefer as close to a full size keyboard as possible, nothing worse than typing on a scrunched up keyboard. 3) Where will you buying this notebook? USA. Online. 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? a. Like: HP and Dell because I get a discount through school, but I can't combine this with any other offers like coupons. b. Dislike: I've always had issues with Compaq. 5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? Gaming, gaming, gaming, gaming, and maybe typing a report if I have any downtime in my gaming. 6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? Mainly on my desk at home and work and school. 7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games? X³: TERRAN CONFLICT, EVE Online, WoW, Spore, Oblivion, Warhammer, EQ2, Command and Conquer 3, etc. Crysis maybe. 8) How many hours of battery life do you need? It will be mainly on my desk and plugged in. I'm sure anything over an hour or two is fine. 9) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? I can go without seeing it. 10) What OS do you prefer? Windows Vista. I need DX10! Screen Specifics 11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? Doesn't matter, I hear that 1280x800 is bad for gaming though. Any resolution that is good for gaming. 12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Doesn't matter really, as long as it's clear and bright. I think glossy screens are attractive, but its not a requirement. Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? No 14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? I can buy as soon as I find something I like! I would like it to last as long as possible. Notebook Components 15) How much hard drive space do you want; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want a SSD drive? I would say 250gb minimum... but I still haven't filled my 120gb at home ... 16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? Of course! I rarely burn anything and I don't have any Blu-Ray disks, but its always nice to have! You never know...
Budget Gaming Laptop? General Questions 1) What is your budget? $1000 MAX 2) What size notebook would you prefer? Probably 13"-16" The smaller the better, but I have no problem with a 16 inch screen since with my ideal specs I doubt I will find anything smaller. 3) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? Game, lost of games, school work of course, some video editing, multitasking. 4) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? It will be on my desk most of the time (maybe hook up another monitor and an external mouse to it even, but if I go somewhere for the weekend its going with me. Bf3, CSS, Hl2, GTA IV., Starcraft, Nothing of crysis level, but still some high end games. 6) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? I hate toshiba, I just hate the way they look. Other than that I don't have a problem as long as its a pretty established brand (not some back water company just starting out). 7) How many hours of battery life do you need? If I can get an hour and a half or two while doing stuff on it (maybe not gaming) I would be happy, I plan on buying whatever battery upgrades (if any) they have. 8) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? Standard 11) Screen Resolutions Standard SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA. 12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Makes no difference to me. Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Not really, I just don't want it to look like someone's VCR. I don't like how toshiba's look for some reason. 14) How long do you want this laptop to last? As long as it possibly can. I plan on driving this cp into the ground. Notebook Components 15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 120GB? 80 gig is a must, the more the better. 16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD-ROM, DVD-CD/RW or DVD-RW drive? Yeah, I need a dvd-cd-rw. Graphics card needs to be dedicated. I dont plan on playing any ridiculusly system straining games but i still want as good of a card as i can get. Sound card, ehhh i dont think those are that important. I just want to have a good enough card. as in average. any other questions just ask and ill add more details. Thanks! Thanks Matt, but for future answers add hp to brands i dont want. 2 years ago i would have nt said this but i have had a very bad experience with 2 hp laptops and i hear they are slowly moving away from actual computers. Thanks again!

How much can I get if i sell my Dell XPS laptop .? Full details on the laptop about 2 years old and have to replace battery . Dell's Inspiron XPS gaming notebook. Dell's new gaming notebook series, the Inspiron XPS, combines top-tier Intel desktop processing oomph, via the 3.4-GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition chip, with a 128MB ATI Radeon 9700 graphics chip for smooth video and game playback. It will cost you a hefty $4349, but that includes access to a special queue of tech support reps with gaming know-how. For an additional fee, a Dell technician will come to you to install graphics upgrades. Our shipping unit performed well, scoring 125 on PC WorldBench 4 (not a specific gaming test). That wasn't quite enough to beat a Voodoo Envy M:855 gaming laptop with a 134 score at a resolution of 1024 by 768 pixels, but the XPS was on a par with 1.7-GHz and 1.6-GHz Pentium M systems we have tested. The XPS's high native resolution of 1920 by 1200 probably slowed performance; a lower resolution likely would up the score. (See more test results involving the P4 EE.) This laptop carries pretty much everything a traveling gamer would want, including 1GB of RAM, a 60GB hard disk, a 15.4-inch wide-aspect LCD screen, and a 4X/4X/8X DVD+R/RW and 16X/10X/24X CD-RW combination drive in a modular bay. You also get external controls for sound and the optical drive, as well as one FireWire port, four USB 2.0 ports, an ethernet port, a 56-kbps modem port, a PC Card slot, and built-in Wi-Fi. Game images were smooth. The stereo sound, complete with a subwoofer, produced good bass and above-average notebook audio. Like those on most gaming laptops, the XPS's 12-cell battery died young (after 1 hour, 44 minutes). The XPS weighs 11.8 pounds with AC adapter. Still, its top-notch video and good sound will please deep-pocketed gaming fans. They info I got from it is from 2009 .and it not exact mine... I was modified by owner and Im replacing the batter myself 70g and I think its 2-3 g ram , The graphic card is a newer one aswell
HP laptop!! Is it a good build for what I will be using it for? I will be using this laptop for internet, college work, itunes and Sims 3 when it comes out. Maybe a couple of other games. I built it at hp.com and I was wondering if it is a good build for the things I need it for. I was considering adding more hard drive but if that is enough I'd like to stay with that since it is less evpensive. QUESTIONS: 1. Is it a good build for what I will be using it for? 2.Should I raise the hard drive to 320GB? 3. Is 5400rpm good enough or should I get a 7200rpm drive? 4. What would you change, if anything? 5. Does the performance difference between X7900 and T7700 processors justify the huge price difference? The extreme gaming Dell notebook XPS M1730 offers the Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 @2.4GHz and the Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900 @2.8Ghz as options when building the system. The price difference between them is about US$1000! Is it worth to choose the X7900 over the T7700, considering how much I should pay for it? Thanks!

Probably online, within the U.S. 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? a. Like: Quality b. Dislike: Crap 5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? Preferably not, but I'd consider it 6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? Internet Browsing, writing essays, taking notes, moderate gaming 7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? Both, traveling from class to class most likely 8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? Yes, but nothing too heavy. Maybe an MMO like Guild Wars or Aion 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? The higher the better, I'm hoping for at least 2 hours, preferably more 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? It'd be nice to see it, but it doesn't really matter 11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Windows 7 Premium 64-bit Screen Specifics 12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Doesn't really matter. 13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Doesn't matter Build Quality and Design 14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? A nice looking laptop would be cool, but is definitely not a deciding factor 15) When are you buying this laptop? Withing the next few months 16) How long do you want this laptop to last? A long time! Hopefully a good 5 years. Notebook Components 17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Yes, CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner So overall, I want a powerful laptop that will stay fast for a while. One laptop that I am seriously considering is the Asus G51JX-A1 Intel core i7-720QM Processor, 1.6 Ghz, 2.8 with Turboboost 6gb DDR3 1066MHZ DRAM, 2 slots 500gb SATA Hard drive, 7200 RPM Super multi-touch optical drive 15.6" Full HD 1920x1080 LED LCD Display NVidia GTS 360M with 1gb GDDR5 dedicated VRAM Backlit Keyboard The Specs are amazing and it sells for about $1,400 The only worry I have is the battery. Considering I want to use it for classes, I was hoping for something that could last a while, and the Asus only has a battery life of a miserable 1 hour. Although, a friend of mine told me that, with the i7 processors, that I could pull of 3 hours if only using internet and Word. Any opinions on the Asus, or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you =) Also, how does this G51JX-A1 compare to to Asus G60JX and the Asus N61JQ-X1? Which one is best/worst?

Checklist for custom gaming PC? Hey, i want to upgrade from my Notebook to a gaming PC. Just wondering how to go about this, I am not too bad with PCs and know a little about components and things, yet have never built my own PC so am not aware of how i would make sure that all of the components would work together and all fit on the same motherboard. Things like RAM and a Processor, cooling system (only ever used heat-sinks, don't know about other devices) Would anybody be able to give me a checklist for what i would need? I would like to build it and not have to spend as much as i would if i bought one pre-built. Does not have to be top-end stuff but something that can run all current PC games on high settings with a good frame rate. I know the sort of numbers i am after for things like Processor, RAM and HDD space, but it is making sure that everything is compatible. Thanks! I know the numbers i am looking for and the operating system that i would need, it was more like: Video card Processor RAM (and the sort of ram, i dont know the difference) motherboard IDE ribbon cables (not sure if these are used anymore, i have used a laptop for years now) Power supply This is the sort of info i want, a list that i can check things of when i obtain them, thanks!
Which new laptop should I buy on Boxing Day? It's difficult to see all my options, so I'm asking the community! Which laptop should I buy on Boxing Day? The "MSI M6275-419US Notebook" is roughly what I am looking for in a PC. Here's the link : http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5536346&csid=ITD&body=MAIN I found the following checklist on a notebookreview forum, General Questions: 1) What is your budget? Maximum of $1000 with taxes included. Less is always better, and on Boxing Day it should be reasonably less. 2) What size notebook would you prefer? 15" - 16" is fine. I'm not really too particular. 3) Please select your country's flag as a post icon and tell us what country are you buying this in. Canada 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? I'm not picky. As long as it generally has good reviews. 5) What tasks will you be performing with the notebook? Gaming (so a dedicated video card is nice. It would be cool to be able to play games like Left For Dead 2, but that's hard to find for under $1000 I think), MS Word, Streaming 6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk? Occasionally, but that's not a big deal. 7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? Left For Dead 2, Warcraft 3, newer games if possible 8) How many hours of battery life do you need? Minimal; this is not that important to me. 9) Do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person? I buy online often. 10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Windows 7 preferred ! Screen Specifics: 11) Would you prefer standard or widescreen? Widescreen 12) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? Higher resolution is better, right? Widescreen preferred 13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? Matte/non-glossy preferred, but it doesn't really matter. Build Quality and Design: 14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? No 15) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? During boxing day sales, and it should last for 3 years minimum Notebook Components 16) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 200GB? More is better 17) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD, Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive? DVD burner Please state any additional features you need. It's also helpful if you can indicate how experienced you are with computers. If you're a novice and don't know how to answer some questions just say so! 2 gb would be nice, but I can upgrade later if itcosts too much to include it. RAM is often cheaper when you pout it in yourself ! I know more than most of my friends about computers, and know most of the lingo, but can't be considered a guru. I have built a few desktop pcs in the past. Thanks again! I am looking forward to the recommendations! Happy Holidays, eh!
Buying new laptop: Advice? Hi all. Looking for some advice. I have finally decided to retire my Dell D600 from 2004... If you have any advice on suggested laptop models, please reply. Thanks in advance! Criteria are below: - under $1000 - 13 to 15 inch screen - 4 GB ram - at least 1GB dedicated graphics card - cd/dvd drive (blue ray not needed) - can be new or manufacturer refurb. optional, but desired features - media card reader multi - no OS I realize it might be kinda hard to find a no-OS laptop. If it's cheaper I would go that way, but if it's more worth it to just get one, then I would go with a Win 7 rig. I have copies of Win 7 and XP both. I am looking to be able to play current games with ease, otherwise just regular stuff. It's also entirely possible my listed requirements are too strict. Let me know. Thanks!! Additional info: 1) What is your budget? Under 1000 2) What size notebook would you prefer? 13-15 inch 3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. If so, please state which games or types of games? Dragon Age 2, Crysis, GTA IV, Dirt 2 and 3, Civ 5 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? at least 3. prefer 4+ 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? no need to see it. 11) What OS do you prefer? How do I activate my webcam for the HP 2000-210US Notebook PC? There's a built-in webcam and idk how to turn it on/off. I wanna use it for playing webcam motion games online
Can you help me buy a notebook? I sort of took up a nomadic life & I can't keep hauling a desktop around. It's nuts. I need a good, tough, cheap notebook. I watch movies sometimes, so a 15.4" screen is a good idea. Also, I take billions of digital photos, & am crazy about mix tapes. I might want to play some games sometime (I played Resident Evil the other day & nearly peed my pants, so I kind of want a scary game now). I think it's ok if I only have 80g - it makes me nervous to have everything all in one place & I don't mind a few USB drives. I hear good things about Toshiba, bad things about Dell, and can't afford a Mac. I don't want to spend a ton of money - maybe around $700USD. More or less is negotiable, but things change so fast it seems senseless to invest too much. I mean, none of them seem built to last, no matter how much I pay. What about processors, drivers, that sort of thing? What am I looking for? Please answer thoroughly, w/ specific examples and links to recommended models if possible. Thx! MacGeek, that's waaayy too much for something I can't pass down to my grandkids! I'm sure they are lovely, though. I'm not experienced enough with computers to know why Apple everything is purportedly superior. Why is it so expensive? Are there compatibility issues? Convince me it's worth the price of a used car and I will consider it. I would really love some details about why Macs are better, why Dells are acceptable, why a Toshiba is good. Do you know anything about the guts of the machines? If something is poor, why? Does the screen break, does the doodad come apart, does the B-9A Whatever have a stronger thingamabob? Something concrete to take to the electronics store.

Will I be able to play any games on my new notebook PC? [Specs included]? I have so many problems trying to play games on my PC; it's old and can hardly handle web-based/flash-based games, let alone today's newest games (like Crysis, NFS:UC, FEAR). So I ordered an Alienware M17 notebook but a friend told me they are crap; now I worry it will be just as bad as my current PC. Software/game for building a model "town"? I am trying to find something that I think would make an excellent gift for someone I know... she writes a lot of stories, and keeps little notebooks with details about the people and places in her stories. I was thinking that she would really like a software program/game that would allow her to create a virtual model of all that. Similar to SIMS, I guess you could say, but that is NOT what I am looking for (I do not think she would enjoy that at all). Do you know how some people build miniature cities/towns as a hobby? I am thinking a virtual mode of that. It needs to be appropriate for a teenager. Thank you.
Gaming Laptop Suggestion Request? I need help selecting a gaming laptop. Please suggest any laptops that you think I should consider. Additional comments are more than welcome. I have provided the following information as a guide. Thanks for your help. 1) What is your budget? Definitely not more than $2000. Ideally, I don’t want to spend more than $1600. 2) What size notebook would you prefer? Desktop Replacement - 17” screen. 18” is too big for me. 3) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? I will be primarily leaving the laptop on the desk, but would like some portability for travel. 4) Where will you buying this notebook? Buying in the US. 5) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? I’m open to any brand. 6) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? Yes. 7) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? I will be primarily gaming with this laptop. I also want to use it for video and photo editing. 8) Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? Gaming will be the primary purpose of the laptop. I’d like to be able to play games such as Metro 2033, Crysis 1 and 2, The Witcher 2, World of Warcraft (multiple clients running at once), Rift, and Starcraft. Maximum video settings would be great, but at least high settings. I will NOT be playing in 3-D. 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? Not much battery life needed - maybe an hour or two. 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? I just want to be able to see images of the laptop so that I know the location of ports and buttons. 11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Windows 7. 12) When are you buying this laptop? Buying sometime within the next week or two. 13) If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links. I’ve been looking at sites such as AVADirect, ProStar, Digital Storm, GenTech PC, Xotic PC, powernotebooks, Malibal, Agearnotebooks, etc. I have no idea which are good. Maybe there’s a supplier that is a hidden gem out there that I missed. 14) Additional Information I think the GPU should be the primary focus of this laptop build. I don’t’ think I can afford the GTX 580M, but I’d like to have something that is better than the GTX560M. 15) What screen resolution(s) would you prefer? I would like full HD. 1920x1080, I suppose. I love small text. I do not want 3-D. 16) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen? Not exactly sure if I want glossy or matte. I play games in well-lit rooms so matte would be better, but I do prefer the more vibrant colors from glossy screens. This won’t be a dealbreaker either way. Maybe someone can convince me one way or another. I’ve also been reading about “Gamut”. Should I focus much on this? Might be out of my budget. 17) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Performance and functionality come first. Style would be great as an added bonus, but not a requirement. The laptop can look plain – I don’t need fancy lighting or designs, but it shouldn’t look like an eyesore. 18) How long do you want this laptop to last? How long do you want to keep your laptop? I purchase a new PC about every four years so I don’t need the best of the best components. 19) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive? 320 GB is more than enough. The solid state drives might be out of my budget, but would be nice to have. I would prefer Raid 0 capability. 20) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? A basic optical drive is sufficient. 21) Other I would like to have an integrated card reader and integrated camera. Various components should be standard: HDMI output, USB3.0 and 2.0 ports, Ethernet/modem jack, etc. I don’t need any additional software nor accessories.
I need the perfect laptop within my budget? Help guys, my dad agreed to buy me a laptop as a graduation gift. I'm from the Philippines, but my dad decided to buy the laptop in Riyadh since laptops there are way cheaper and because he works there. Please help me find the best laptop to buy within my budget range. I filled up some basic questions here. General Question 1) What is your budget? We are not rich hence the price would be.. I guess a maximum of $850 or SAR 3187.50 2) What size notebook would you prefer? About 14" to 16" I guess 3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. Like I've said I am from the Philippines but my dad wants to buy it in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? a. Like: Preferably Asus or Toshiba or Dell, but Acer would be fine too b. Dislike: Macs, I do not totally dislike it but it was way expensive and out of my price range 5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? No 6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? I will be using Photoshop and Illustrator with it and I'm also planning to study After Effects, Cinema 4D or 3DS Max, and Corel Painter on it. I guess that would need a lot of multi-tasking so i want it to have at least 4GB RAM 7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? Both, I don't care if it's heavy or not it doesn't matter. 8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? I'm not so much into gaming but I think the Graphics Card that I would want for it will be at least an nVidia GeForce 310M with 1GB vRAM, but maybe it would be fun if it can run Left4Dead and Modern Warfare or even at least PvZ on it. 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? About 3 to 4 hours or maybe longer 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? How can I change my CPU and other things on my computer for gaming? Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.100218-0019) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: Compaq Presario CQ60 Notebook PC BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.16GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.2GHz Memory: 1978MB RAM Page File: 1834MB used, 2365MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10 I want to get my computer to run smoother with games such as Alliance of Valiant Arms or other games and I really just don't know how. I was thinking of buying a new CPU but I wanted to get it installed at a store or something. What stores would do this and for what price? I want to get a CPU with atleast like 2.4 ghz.
What should I do to upgrade my computer specs to accommodate for gaming? I have a HP HDX16 Notebook PC w/: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo CPU P7450 @ 2.13 Ghz(2 CPUs), ~2.1Ghz RAM: 4.0 GB System: 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 130m w/ DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Approx. Total Memory: 2779 MB and Current Display Mode: 1360 x 768 (32-bit) (60hz) I can provide any other information that could help you help me (just let me know how I look up that information). My goal is try and boost this existing computer as cheaply and effectively as possible if I can in order for it to better adapt to top-of-the-line video games like Call of Duty, WoW, SW:TOR, etc. I'm just not a computer person in this respect so I was hoping someone could assist me. Thanks.
How well would the Sims 3 run on this notebook computer? I've been looking around for a notebook that will run smoothly. However, I cannot find a good notebook that will play the Sims 3 smoothly, so I'm going to ask those who understand a bit more than me. Will this machine work on a 3 of 4 star scale without it being slow and unstable? The notebook I'm currently looking at is: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit HP Pavilion HDZ16t 2.26 GHz Intel Core2 Duo CPU 4 GB DDR2 Memory/RAM 500 GB Hard Drive 1GB nVidia GeForce GT130M Now, it's saying that I need a CPU that's at least 2.4GHz P4 or equivalent. Now at the bottom shows that for "For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least: •Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above •2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent •0.5 GB additional RAM" My question on this is, if the built-in graphics are at least 1.8 GHz with a Core2 Duo, shouldn't it be the same if you had a 3rd party graphics like nVidia or ATI? The following Windows Vista system requirements are for the Sims 3. The video card above (1GB nVidia GeForce 130M) is supported by the Sims 3, so I know I have no issue there will determine how well this machine will run this game: •2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent •1.5 GB RAM •128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0 •Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 •At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games The 2.4GHz Pentium 4 and equivalent are sort of confusing to me, because I've been thinking that the 2.26GHz isn't sufficent and I may have to upgrade it to the 2.66GHz Core2 Duo by customizing the notebook on HP.com which is about $175 extra to do so! So, my overall questionto you, do you believe this game will run sufficient to perfect, or should I upgrade something before this purchase such as the CPU or RAM? Actually, it only cost about $979.99 plus s/h would be $1,000. The link below is where I'm going to purchase it. http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computers/notebooks/HDX16t_series/rts/4/computer_store/NV032UA%2523ABA

How about the pc which I'm going to build? Hi, I'm going to build a pc and I have chosen these parts: Case: Coolermaster Elite 310 (silver/black) ATX Motherboard: Asus P7P55 LX (S1156) ATX CPU: Intel Core i3 540 (3 GHz) RAM: 2x2 GB corsair DDR3 1333 Mhz XMS3 HDD: Western Digital caviar blue 500 GB 7200 RPM 3,5" SATA Optical device: Sony NEC DVD-RW GPU: ATI 5670HD (1 GB) PSU: OCZ StealthXStreame 2 500W OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Display: Already have a Samsung P2270HD (22" full hd 1080p) I'm going to use it as a replacement for my current notebook. Using it for school, watching movies, listening music and playing some games. I won't be needing extreme graphics or anything, just decent frame rates and decent graphics. I do hope the display isn't too "good" compared to my GPU. Thanks and all the help and opinions are welcome ;-) The GPU is 1 GB DDR5.
Toshiba Satellite A665D-S5172 Graphics Upgrade? So this is my first laptop, and it seems to be struggling in the graphics department (figuratively speaking). I already upgraded to 8gb of ram but programs are really laggy, especially when running more than one at once. Games and CAD programs are slow and crash often. I have built a gaming desktop before, but i am pretty new to the notebook game and cant seem to figure out how to beef up the display capability. Are the graphics integrated or something? Help much appreciated.
How will this older game perform on my newer laptop? So, I have an HP Pavilion dv6-2157wm laptop. Well, let's just say that the first thing that came to mind when purchasing it was NOT gaming. But, for the heck of it I wanted to try out a game called War Leaders Clash of Nations, because I used to love that kind of game. Anyway, here are my specs: HP Pavilion dv6-2157wm Entertainment Notebook Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (64-bit) 320GB Hard Drive 8GB DDR3 RAM Intel Core I3 M330 at 2.13Ghz Intel Integrated HD Graphics As you may or may not already know, War Leaders: Clash of Nations was built for windows XP. So, how would this older game perform? Will I have a bunch of Freezes and lags (I always have my laptop elevated and on a cooling stand by the way)? If not, what can kind of settings could I play the game on? Medium, High, Ultra? Thanks!

Asus notebook purchase help.....? hi there i was looking to buy a brand new Asus G73JH for my personal use and wanted to know a few things ... 1. Since the laptop is not available in India, I will most probably be getting it from UK. So I wanted to know how can I get it serviced if I experience some issues... 2. How is the build quality of asus laptops... I mean are they sturdy enough for rough handling.. 3. How good is the performance of the ATi Radeon 5870. Will I be a ble to play most games on high and full HD 4. And, most importantly is it value for money or can I get a better one in the same price range(about USD 1500-1600) Thanks a lot for your help in advance :-)
Teach me how to upgrade my notebook!!! (please)? Okay, I have no idea what I'm doing. I was watching crysis on youtube and it is FREAKIN SWEET. I must have this game. But I can't run it. Just the demo crashes my system. I also will be playing Gears and COD4 on it as well. I have a Compaq presario F700. Specs: CPU: 2 processors running - AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-58 CPU Speed: 1.90 GHz Performance Rated at 3.85 GHz System RAM: 1.9 GB PASS OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Edition (Build 6000) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M So, once I buy the stuff i need, what do I do? Is it as simple as cracking open my case and taking out the old stuff and putting in the new? What's the price range I am looking to spend for minimum to top of the line? In the "System requirements lab" I don't even meet the minimum. Not even close. But on the game settings tab I go to "Detect Settings" and it sets them to "medium." I also closed all programs before starting.
A light (-5 lbs) but wide (15"+) notebook? Looking around for a laptop, cause my current one (a Dell Vostro 1000) is dying in it's fourth year (no battery, screen falling off). #1 My main want it something durable. The guts of my Dell, other than being outdated seem to be doing okay, but the plastic body is creaky and broken off in horrible places, and it has missing keys and a taped down shift key, again the fault of touchy plastic. I'd like for a new one to last me a good five years, inside and out, before I have to start looking again (ignoring the battery which I expect will need replacing before then). #2 Specs-- At least an i3 processor, and at least 3GB of RAM, though 2 GB would be an improvement on what I have, so 2GB with the option to upgrade it would be okay too. Harddrive size isn't important. I store almost everything externally, and might switch the HDD for an SSD anyway. A webcam. #3 Size-- I would love something thin and light but with a bigger screen. An optical drive isn't mandatory. I don't see why a bigger screen would have to make for a much heftier machine. I mean the screen is what, 25% of the power? You make the screen 50% bigger, it's only a 12% increase in battery needs. What I want is one that's 15" or more and 5 lbs or less, but you guys tell me if that's possible. #4 cost-- less than $800 I would loooove a matte screen, but I know they are the minority. I would also looove a long battery life, but who wouldn't. Note-- I'm gonna be installing Ubuntu anyway, so the OS and how it works with the computer isn't too important. Also of Note-- 90% of my computer use is just web browsing. The rest is movie watching, word processing, photo editing. And I'd like to be able to edit videos occasionally without my laptop overheating. I don't really ever play games. The best I've found so far-- Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E420, Dell Inspiron 14R, ASUS U43JC, or maybe a refurbished Macbook? Let me know if any of these are terrible, or obviously if you have any better suggestions. I feel like there are simultaneously way too many options and not enough. And how much do you think I should expect to pay for what I want? Another question-- has anyone used a System76 laptop? I wouldn't exactly fit the lightweight wish, and their battery life is apparently sad, but if the build quality is great, I'd still consider them. Let me know! Thanks, if you read all this! :)

Looking for a fairly high performance laptop? Three years ago I purchased an Alienware Area-51 laptop. I regretted it--- I realized later that it was a bit of a lemon, and had no end of technical issues. Now I'm looking for a new one. As you can see from my old laptop, I'm looking for a gaming laptop, but it also needs to be a good laptop for a student. That said, I don't play a lot of FPSes, so I don't need a bleeding-edge laptop--- just one that can, say, run World of Warcraft smoothly on the high settings and run something like Left 4 Dead well. 1) What is your budget? - As much as $3,000 dollars if it's the perfect fit. Ideally, $2500 or less 2) What size notebook would you prefer? a. Netbook; 10” screen or less b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12” screen c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen - 17''+ is ideal, and I won't go smaller then 16''. 3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? a. Like: None in particular, though HP is ok. Also, I've liked the specs I've seen on some ASUS products. b. Dislike: Dell, Mac 5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? - Low to mid-intensity gaming, student usage 6) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? - Both 7) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games or types of games? - As stated above, games with middling graphics intensity like World of Warcraft and most Steam titles not named Half Life 2. 8) How many hours of battery life do you need? 3 is ideal. 2 is good. 1.5 is mandatory. 9) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? 10) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS, Linux, etc. - Only have experience with Windows. Screen Specifics 11) From the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer? a. WXGA – 1280x800 or occasionally 1280x768; For people who like big text and icons that are easy to read. Less stuff fits on the screen, which translates into more scrolling. b. WXGA+ – 1440x900; A modest bump over WXGA. Text and icons are a bit smaller. A little more stuff fits on the screen. c. WSXGA+ – 1680x1050; The middle ground. Again, text and icons are smaller than WXGA+, and more stuff fits onto the screen. Good for having applications open side by side, like a web browser while playing a video. d. WUXGA - 1920x1200; Very small text and icons, that can be hard to read. Lots of stuff fits on the screen, which means less scrolling. Good for applications that require a high level of detail like CAD or Photo Editing. 12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? - Glossy is ideal Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? - Fairly. 14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? - Don't knew when I'll be buying it (possibly soon), but I'd like it to last a minimum of 3 years with little trouble. Notebook Components 15) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 500GB? Do you want a SSD drive? 250+GB. 320GB is great, 500GB might be excessive for my needs. Don't need a SSD drive, and they cost too much anyway. 16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? Yes. Blu-Ray drive would be nice, but a lack of at least a CDRW/DVD-ROM is a deal-breaker. I made a slight error with my question post--- regarding resolution, I prefer 1440-900 or 1680-1050.
Lapdesk + volume mixer problem? I got myself an Asus gaming laptop >>http://www.asus.com/Notebooks/Gaming_Powerhouse/G53SW/<< (I'm no geek so I can't figure how to describe it =P). Anyway I bought a Lapdesk cooler/built in sound card thingy to go with it >>http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/notebook-products/cooling-pads/devices/6394<< becuase I have bad experiences with laptops/computers sound cards busting or over heating from the epic online gaming/streaming/multiple tabs being open. Well I've used the lapdesk with the with the Asus laptop and the sound it gives off is amazing. great base and all. However it counts as 2 sound cards running at same time and I only want one. Because id get music coming from one and game sound coming from another. One day I fixed that playing with the volume mixer and can't change it back. Question is: How do I change the mixer to play my applications using my lapdesk rather than laptop speakers. (I tried going to mixer and I clicked the speaker arrow, it shows the lapdesk device but no programs running in it) Dang it. I miss having that deep base I get while playing a strategy game with cannons going off or the deep base I get with Underground dance music such as Dubstep or hardstyle. If no one can figure it out ill try posting it again in a few days-week. Also is this the best category to fit it in? Ok I've found it out. Follow this path: Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers (or at least for my windows 7). Then set the default to the sound device you want to play from. When unplugged or what not it changes back but if plugged back in BAM it works again =P.
When will this be feasible? Wireless "notebook" that has no CPU.. see inside? Think of a laptop that isn't a laptop at all.. all it is is a keyboard, mouse and screen. All wireless and with a battery as usual.. but that's it. No hard drive, no cpu, no ram.. no need for any of those.. because all this is is an interface to your house's central computer. That beast of a monster you just finished building. Why the need to buy a laptop to work around the house if you've got to spend another fortune to get one that runs as well as your mothership's computer =P you get me? These days with bluetooth and 2.4ghz wireless you've got an incredible range on keyboard and mouse. I realize this doesn't require a lot of data transfer.. but I'm hearing about wireless KVMs now.. they can send the video signal over wireless too.. How soon do you think it'll be fast enough to game on one of these?. Meaning.. you play the game on the central computer.. but from anywhere in the house. Thanks, and if anyone has info on projects in development that aim to do this. Plz let me know!!!

Is my laptop met the system requirements for this game? I have a HP Pavilion dv9925nr Notebook PC and I would like to purchase the game The Sims 3. I am trying to find out if my system will be able to handle the game. I have vista on my laptop. Visuals on the screen can be seen clearly from a wide range of angles. If Not It's Ok. Anti-Glare screens. not really a issue as long as it's clear, Colorful (Vivid). Good Quality for movies. Nothing pale looking. Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Yes style is important but not a BIG concern as long as it meets the specs and size. 14) When are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last? Buying It This Week. Hoping it Lasts For 3-5 Years. Notebook Components 15) How much hard drive space do you want; 40GB to 500GB? 200 Gb and Up- 7200 RPM prefer, but a 5400 RPM will due. If possible two hard drives, one as the primary HD and another as backup to store multimedia files and my work. So I guess the secondary disk needs to be bigger. Also a harddrive that can boot windows very quickly. 16) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? DVD Burner, Read, Write, everything. If possible Label but Not a Issue. I would love a Blue-Ray with a 1080p screen, but if its gonna cost me $500 more than No. Additional Technical Features Ram 3 GB of Ram, I don't see the point of 4 Gb in a 32-bit if the max is 3.12 Gb even through vista could read in in SP1 but not use it, so I see it as a waste right? But If it's 64-bit then 4 Gb is best. Other -Processor, has to be P8600 2.4 GHZ Duo and above. (Maybe P8400 if you think it could handle my needs) I don't want freezes, crashes, has to be able to launch application while playing a movie without the pause. Need a fast computer. -Want a security lock with the laptop so when I'm out I can lock it to a table (not a big deal) -Needs to have the ability to read Phone Memory Sticks. (Not a big deal) -Bio-metric Fingerprint Reader Built it; Prefer (Not needed through) Considering the Vaio Z 1366 X 768, but I don't know if a 9300m GS 128 MB will due for occasional gaming what do you think. 256 MB is a option + 1600 x 900 + P9500 (2.53 GHZ) but from $2,000 is $500 more is it worth it? How would gaming look, I like it because its light and small. Thanks Again appreciate it. Yea that link DID NOT help, thanks for trying to give me a Virus, Lucky I have a Anti-virus To Block It. People Do Not Click That LINK; Global... From Chamberlin!!
Do you think I should purchase the m11x based on my needs? I really know nothing about computer parts, and I have been reading as much as I could about the m11x to see if it is what I want, and these are the issues that are still stumping me. 1) I would really love to play the newest games to come out on my computer for at least the next 6 years or so at medium settings with 40ish fps and was wondering if I could achieve that with this setup I currently have planned: the Intel® Core™2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache), 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz, and the 500GB SATAII 7,200RPM. This comes to about 1069$ with my student discount. 2) Also, is the CPU in the m11x worse than my core 2 duo T5750 @ 2.00 ghz. I am asking this because I do not know much about computer parts, I'm assuming the m11x's is worse because less ghz means slower (at least what I was led to believe). But I find this hard to believe because I purchased my laptop almost two years ago, I would think that the processor technology would be at the point where even an 11" laptop would have a far stronger CPU than my current Toshiba satellite-A305 that I got for about 800$. 3) Also, will the relatively old CPU on the m11x ever hinder the notebooks ability to play games in the future, as it will not meet minimum requirements? I have been reading a lot about the C2Duo vs the new i3,i5,i7 series, and was not entirely sure if it would be worth waiting for the m11x to have built in nethalem if all I really care about is gaming (no video editing). 4) Also, will the fact that this notebook is constructed with plastic ever cause the computer to warp? I have heard about prior issues like this in plastic builds, and more specifically alienware computers warping their shapes. 5) And, one final note, will the price of the new nethalem processors quickly drop, maybe so much so that if I wait until April, I could get the m11x with an i3 for the same price as I am paying now? (~1069$) 6) If i decide to buy the current setup I have planned, will I be able to easily upgrade my CPU to the nethalem series? How much will that usually cost, if I have alienware do it, without considering the price of the processor. 7) Is it risky for me to buy the first generation of m11x as there may be inherent problems in the design? Is this common for first generation computers, I know it's common for consoles (i.e. red ring of death). Please leave any insight you may have on these issues. Thanks!

Standard a. XGA -1024x768 - Large and easy to read text + graphics icons, but you fit less stuff on the screen. b. SXGA - 1400x1050 - Compromise resolution between XGA and UXGA. Widescreen d. WXGA or WXGA+ - 1280x768/800 or 1440x900; Wider viewing version of XGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets. e. WSXGA+ - 1680x1050; Wider viewing version of SXGA, good for movie viewing or spreadsheets. 12) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? preferred matte, i hate reflections while im outdoors Build Quality and Design 13) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?' Btw, it is factory refurbished, not by HP , but by a local tech team, and is $445 flat, no shipping charge or tax. What do u think? It has a 30 day warranty. Do you think it is a good buy? or can you recommend what would be a good computer for Photoshop, college work, power points, and websurfing?
plan on building my own PC. how much do you think it will cost? i plan on having some sort of super gaming PC. here are the specs i want so far: -3.0GHz Dual Core AMD processor -4GB DDR2 RAM -2x 500GB HDD -3x IEEE 1394 ports -6x high speed USB 2.0 ports -2x 17" LCD monitors (2500:1 contrast ratio) -2x DVD/CD burning drives with Light Scribe i haven't decided on what kind of Video Card i want yet. some sort of Nvidia, but idk which. and i also want a really good sound card and wireless card. please give me some suggestion on those So how much do you think it would cost to build all this? I plan on it being a 64bit Window's XP SP3 on one HDD, and Linux Mint 4.0 on the other HDD. this would be of course a Desktop, not a Laptop/Notebook.
Macbook look but with all Microsft components?? I am interested in purchasing a note book (what is the difference between a notebook and a laptop or is it the same thing with different names) that i will use simply for writing and possibly putting one game on (like age of empires or so forth nothing fancy), i would like it to have vista home basic and my final (and weird question) is whether or not you can build it so it looks like a mac book? I love the design of the macs. but i use strictly Microsoft. Can this be built? How much do you think this would cost to have some one build it if it is possible? If it isent possible can you guys recommend a site or type of computer that looks simmilar to a mac book? How much would it cost.
