Gaming Laptop Suggestion Request? I need help selecting a gaming laptop. Please suggest any laptops that you think I should consider. Additional comments are more than welcome. I have provided the following information as a guide. Thanks for your help. 1) What is your budget? Definitely not more than $2000. Ideally, I don’t want to spend more than $1600. 2) What size notebook would you prefer? Desktop Replacement - 17” screen. 18” is too big for me. 3) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? I will be primarily leaving the laptop on the desk, but would like some portability for travel. 4) Where will you buying this notebook? Buying in the US. 5) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? I’m open to any brand. 6) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? Yes. 7) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? I will be primarily gaming with this laptop. I also want to use it for video and photo editing. 8) Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? Gaming will be the primary purpose of the laptop. I’d like to be able to play games such as Metro 2033, Crysis 1 and 2, The Witcher 2, World of Warcraft (multiple clients running at once), Rift, and Starcraft. Maximum video settings would be great, but at least high settings. I will NOT be playing in 3-D. 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? Not much battery life needed - maybe an hour or two. 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? I just want to be able to see images of the laptop so that I know the location of ports and buttons. 11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc. Windows 7. 12) When are you buying this laptop? Buying sometime within the next week or two. 13) If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links. I’ve been looking at sites such as AVADirect, ProStar, Digital Storm, GenTech PC, Xotic PC, powernotebooks, Malibal, Agearnotebooks, etc. I have no idea which are good. Maybe there’s a supplier that is a hidden gem out there that I missed. 14) Additional Information I think the GPU should be the primary focus of this laptop build. I don’t’ think I can afford the GTX 580M, but I’d like to have something that is better than the GTX560M. 15) What screen resolution(s) would you prefer? I would like full HD. 1920x1080, I suppose. I love small text. I do not want 3-D. 16) Do you want a Glossy/reflective screen or a Matte/non-glossy screen? Not exactly sure if I want glossy or matte. I play games in well-lit rooms so matte would be better, but I do prefer the more vibrant colors from glossy screens. This won’t be a dealbreaker either way. Maybe someone can convince me one way or another. I’ve also been reading about “Gamut”. Should I focus much on this? Might be out of my budget. 17) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? Performance and functionality come first. Style would be great as an added bonus, but not a requirement. The laptop can look plain – I don’t need fancy lighting or designs, but it shouldn’t look like an eyesore. 18) How long do you want this laptop to last? How long do you want to keep your laptop? I purchase a new PC about every four years so I don’t need the best of the best components. 19) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive? 320 GB is more than enough. The solid state drives might be out of my budget, but would be nice to have. I would prefer Raid 0 capability. 20) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? A basic optical drive is sufficient. 21) Other I would like to have an integrated card reader and integrated camera. Various components should be standard: HDMI output, USB3.0 and 2.0 ports, Ethernet/modem jack, etc. I don’t need any additional software nor accessories.

All around laptop/notebook? I'm in the market to move away from my desktop and into a portable computer. I of course need the basic word/excel/power point functionality (which of course adds 120$ to the top of any device im looking at if I dont want the locked versions) I don't plan to do much gaming on it, I play WoW on and off, and have been contemplating SWTOR so if those could be supported (even if only on low-medium settings) that would be ideal. But I don't need a leading edge video card/gaming support. I have been out of the PC purchasing world for sometime now and while I have a basic understanding of RAM/video cards/PC-cores I'm feeling overwhelmed with all the new i3 i5 i7 amd intel core processors out there... that and i remember when 512mb of ram was a big deal and now that its jumped so high I find myself lacking any sort of benchmarks... Many in my preferred price range ($500-700) seem to vary between i3 and i5 processors, 4 to 8 gigs of ram, and have different video cards or different integrated graphics. I've looked at Dell,Acer,Lenovo,HP, and Vaio and most seem to be about the same... Any help weeding out baddies and guide towards what specs will work for me would be appreciated
I'm looking for a good gaming laptop? I'm not sure what I should be looking for, or where I should be looking. I also plan to use this laptop to work on projects for my Graphic Designing degree. Any tips or guides that you know of? I would prefer to stay in a moderate price range, though I know that might not be possible since I'm asking a lot. Also, is there any difference between laptops and notebooks? I've heard a lot of things on both sides.
is there any way to look up the serial number in a pc game? k now i have mercenaries 2, but i "lost"(my mom threw it away) my instructions guide, so i don't have the serial number to install it. but i still have it in my notebook, but i don't play it cuz it can't handle it. is there a way to look it up?

How to reformat from window vista premium to XP to install? Vista is slowere than XP.? Hello! I recently have bought new Sony Vaio laptop notebook of 1.60 Dual Core of 1GB Ram and 120 G hard disk with window vista home premium edition, but it is very slow than even in 1 GB memory. I also don't need a lot of junk program of window vista, game and media stuff. I removed many programs , and yet it is not that faster. Instead of upgrading into 2 GB Ram, I want to install XP home or professional. User guide shows in the Help and support that I have to reformat to older version of operating system of XP. I am no expert. Anyone out there who knows how to do it by myself instead of going to repair shop?

Making sure you can upgrade your PC's graphics card...? I will be buying a desktop soon and I want to know what to look out for so I can be sure that all parts of it can be upgraded, should I ever want to in the future. The reason I ask is I currently own a Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebook which is pretty sucky, and for some reason I do not know, the only part of it I can upgrade is it's ram. I will be intending to buy this desktop instead of whatever the next gen game consoles are, so hopefully that gives you an idea of the parts I want to be able to 'upgrade' easily (e.g the graphics card, ram, hard drive, etc). I am also leaning towards buying a PC, as I don't think I can trust myself in building my own. However if any of you know any guides that make it painfully clear what you have to do, I'd really appreciate that.
What are some really good books? I'm a 13 year old girl and I love to read! But the thing is I am running out of books and I need to think of a good title for my next book report. Books I have liked: Twilight Saga Harry Potter The Notebook The Terrible, Glorious Year I Totally, Completely Lost It (or something like that) Any titles by Meg Cabot The Hunger Games Megan Meede's Guide to Surviving the McGrowan Boys I sort of like fantasy stuff, but I also really like the "chic lit" kind of books. I can easily read a few hundred page book in a day, so length is no prob. I don't care if people swear or make out or anything (I HAVE read The Notebook)
I am trying to convince my parents to buy me a macbook pro i wrote this list well what do you think? 20 Reasons Why I Need a Macbook Pro 1.Macs are more reliable. In the past 8 months my computer has had to have the Os re-installed 4 times, 3 for hard drive problems and 1 for a virus. Mac’s are very reliable machines according to consumer reports, and multiple reviews online such as C-net, Notebook reviews, Consumer reports, ECT. Mark the Mac book pro as a very good Computer, better than a PC. 2.Macs Run windows to! On a Macbook Pro I Can Run Windows as well as Mac OS X through Boot Camp. So in way I will get the best of both worlds I can run Mac OS X for internet and video editing and music editing, then I can run Windows Vista for Games, Office, and Windows Exclusive programs I might need. 3.I Know How to Use Macs. I can use a Mac much better than a PC. I was taught how to use them in elementary school. Right down to how to use all of the Mac office programs. 4.No Viruses! On Macs there are no viruses, which means that I can /surf the web with confidence my computer is safe. 5.If my Mac breaks no problem! With Apple care I can call Apple and my problem is fixed either by an apple expert helping me through it our by sending my computer to apple. Were as with a PC if it breaks Basically your screwed, first you have to find the problem, then call support then figure out how to fix it, then try do to do all of the things that you have no clue on how to do. No no no no with a Mac I call apple and since Macs are so simple with a description of my problem I have an answer. 6.A Mac Will Help Me in School. Last year I had 12 late or missing essays and research assignments because my computer was broken. On a Mac if it breaks I just send it to apple and in a few days I get a new computer for free. But it takes weeks to fix a PC. 7.They Last Forever!!!!!! On a Mac the Requirements to run software are very slim, the average life of a Mac is about 5 years compared to the 2 year life of a PC. 8.I can Use a Mac for Everything!!! Since Macs run Windows and Mac OS X there is no such thing as incompatible software. 9.You May Say at This Point “I am Convinced you need a Mac, But why a Macbook pro?” Well a Macbook pro is a notebook, which means I can use it anywhere. For example what if I have a huge report I have to do over the weekend but we are going to grandmas house, well I could take my Macbook pro and I could work on a report, and study for a test with a preloaded study guide. 10.I will get A’s on my report Card. With a Mac there are no viruses and they are notably reliable so there is no excuse of my computer had a virus, or the “it was broken” excuse. A Macbook pro will help me excel in school and in extra activities I do such as movie making and video games and there is guitar learning software. 11.Since I will be using the computer I should get the computer I want to use. What you guys have to remember is that the next computer I’m going to get will be my computer, so in that case I should get the computer that I want to use, not the one that you want me to use. 12.If I get the Macbook pro I will have enough space on my desk to do other things. Such as homework, or work. Right now my desk is too crowded with CRT monitors to do work; well a laptop would take care of that. 13.There is a brand new update. An update came out on June 5th which means that I will get the most advanced technology now. 14.A Macbook pro is the most powerful notebook and most powerful Mac other than the Mac pro. 15.I have two lives. If I came home from school one day and I found my computer broken my dell, I would have to wait for dad to fix it. But with a Mac I can run Windows and OS X so if OS X dies I can use windows because it uses a separate portion of the hard drive, and vise versa. 16.Apple is the only company that makes the software and the hardware. On a Mac the software is made to use all of the advantages of the hardware. Were as on a PC the software is made to be used on 100 companies computers 17.All the programs I use and want to use are on Mac. I use iTunes and that’s a program designed for Mac. I cant use iMovie, or Logic. 18.A new OS is about to be released. Leopard is about to be released, with many more features than tiger. 19.I can use .mac. .mac is a net based e-mail and web page publisher and internet storage. With many other features. 20.Macs just work. Macs are so simple a caveman can use them, they work so well, and they are so easy to use that you can use it to learn languages, or to learn how to play an instrument. They just work, were as with a PC needs to have lessons to learn how to use it. With a Macbook pro I can just do everything and have everything work. Reasons 1-20 are the reasons I need a Macbook pro. oh yeah and btw im not asking people about the classic mac or windows im asking if my list is good, dont answer if your gonna say something such as "buy a pc instead"
ASUS vs. HP, which one is better for me? HP PAVILLION DV7-3135EO (17,3") vs. ASUS N71JV-TY015V (17,3") - Which one is better for gaming and working (like school-work and stuff)? The HP is a little cheaper, but I don't think that the CPU is so good tho, it's from AMD, but I'm more familiar with Intel. The Asus have a big capacity of storage, but is it better than the HP at gaming and working? If you know more information about these notebooks, then please explain them to me guided. :) And tell me which one to pick. I'm very intrested in the Asus, but the HP seems also nice.

What book should I read next? I am looking for a book or series to start reading next! I love science fiction especially vampires! It doesnt have to be vampires or even science fiction though! I also love a book with romance in it! I want a book or series that I wont be able to put down! Also, I am 20 years old and although I love reading young adult books, some are just too juvenile for me. Here are some books that I love/like starting with my favorites. Twilight Series-Stephenie Meyer Vampire Academy Series-Richelle Mead The Hunger Games Series-Suzanne Collins Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side-Beth Fantaskey Immortal Instruments Series-Cassandra Clare Wings Series- Aprilynne Pike Wicked Lovely Series-Melissa Marr Georgina Kincaid Series- Richelle Mead Perfect Chemistry, Rules of Attraction, Leaving Paradise- Simone Elkels Beastly and A Kiss in Time- Alex Flinn ( though i thought the endings were really cheesy and stupid) The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, The Last Song, Dear John, The Wedding- Nicholas Sparks Vampire Diaries-L.J Smith Here are books that I hated because they were boring or to juvenile so please dont suggest these lol House of Night Series-P.C. Cast Thirst -Christopher Pike- Dark Visions- L.J. Smith Uglies Series- Scott Westerfield- So if you could suggest something with a little romance mixed with adventure, great characters/narrator, not too juvenile, and something you dont want to put down that would be great! Thanks in advance!

Am I an ineffective teacher? Why can't I get my students motivated? I'm in my 3rd year of teaching and while it's way better than my first year one thing continues to bother me: my students hate my class. I teach high school foreign language and I work hard to develop lesson plans that are communicative and beneficial to them. For example, every day they have a warm up when they come in. I give them about 5-6 minutes to do the warm up and we go over it in class together. We play a game with a weekly question to get everyone speaking the language and then we start into that day's lesson. On Friday I always try to do a less stressful day for them (ie review game, culture activity, etc.). I always try to not give them homework on the weekend unless it's absolutely necessary. I give study guides for all of their tests and we do those together in class and go over the answers. My tests are literally the study guides scrambled so if they participate and study their study guide they are guaranteed to do well. Their quizzes come directly from the notes and warm ups in class. Occasionally, I let them have an open note quiz. In short, I think my class is great, but the kids are vocal that they hate my subject area. It bothers me. Don't get me wrong. I realize it's not a popularity contest, but I think every teacher wants to know that at least most of the kids are learning and enjoying what they teach. Once a month I give a journal topic for my upper level classes. The kids have 30 minutes to write about the topic I give them. Today because we are just starting school it was in English. I asked them to communicate to me in those journals what their anxieties were about the class and what things they felt the most comfortable about. I also asked them what were some elements of the class they enjoyed and what were some things they would like to do. Almost every journal talked about how they didn't like the class and they hated that I gave worksheets to practice concepts. They said it was "busy work". My defense for that is that nearly all of my students are unmotivated to learn and do not go home on their own and study the verbs/tenses and vocabulary. I am left with nothing but worksheets to communicate the concepts and the repetition of it all. I do give a worksheet after every grammar lesson, but honestly I don't know what else to do. The kids I teach are unorganized and can't keep up with anything, they never take their books or notebooks home and often leave them in the hall or my class, and I have to stay on them to take notes. In addition, last year I could count on one hand how many kids came in for extra help. I feel helpless and useless and am starting to question why I'm even teaching. The kids don't appreciate it and to them I'm just giving them pointless work. I'm open to suggestions. What should I do? I'm at a complete loss.
What is the best laptop/note book for me? ? I basically want a new laptop for very easy internet browsing, top notch quality (high def) to watch high quality videos and a good graphics card to play games at full detail, but i want it to be reasonably light. i don't want a plain looking notebook either, i want it to look unique appealing/ stunning. i don't want a mac (nothing wrong with them but i'm more fond with pc's) and the price limit cannot exceed $2000 Australian Dollar ($1 339.8 US Dollar) Please, i am only guiding this question to people with general experience, and please don't recommend notebooks that suit you, but suit my description thanks =) best answer = 10 points

How do I install/update an ATI Radeon Graphics card? I recently got a new hard drive in my Toshiba Notebook. I recovered the system and downloaded all the updates for windows, but when I try to play a game it give me an error. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m2/Tokyo91/IMG000004.jpg I am not able to play any good games on my computer. I was able to before the recovery but now i am unable to. During start up i also get another error. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m2/Tokyo91/IMG000003.jpg It doesn't prevent me from doing anything. It just pops up. Could anyone guide me through this problem and help me resolve this? I already tried to update it through the ATI Catalyst Control Manager and the Catalyst Install manager and it just stops half way through.

Serious problems with Packard Bell MX-61-B-010, caused by virus and unsuccessful recovery? Just last night I downloaded a hack for a computer game that I have. Usually I check if it's a trustworthy site, but this time I didn't so I ended up having my notebook laptop infected with porn links and fake anti-virus programs. I ran a scan with a program called AVG that lasted for just about an hour and it found loads of sh!t like Trojan horses and stuff like that. I think I managed to delete em, but it didn't help at all. I decided to run a partly recovery, which would restore everything but not delete my personal files and folders. I've tried running such a recovery before a few months ago and it fixed everything just perfectly. But after the recovery had finished and I had to re-boot the laptop, it kept initializing the recovery program over and over, no matter how many times I re-booted. Shutting down the window was impossible and if I tried to quit, it would just shut down my laptop. I had my mom, who knows quite a lot more about these problems than I do, mess around with the costumer guide and those settings you can change if you access them while the computer is starting up. Nothing has worked and after we decided to run a full recovery that would delete everything I had ever saved on it, we couldn't. It started trying to re-install windows vista (home premium) but after hundreds of tries, it kept saying this : "The computer was re-booted unexpectedly or experienced an unexpected error. The Windows Installation cannot be continued. If you want to install Windows, click "OK" to re-boot the computer and start the installation again afterwards." That's what comes closest to the Danish version. What the h£ll can I do to fix this?? I'm really scared if I'm gonna lose all my files because I have a f**king lot. I've tried taking out the battery but it didn't work. I read somewhere that I should try and take out the harddisk, but I don't know how to do so when it comes to laptops. Please help...? I'm kinda f**king desperate here BTW, it cannot be switched on anymore, at all. It gets to a certain point, where it says it can't install windows again, then it reboots if I do anything. That's the problem now, I think I got rid of the virus. At least I hope so... *something

Is he playing cat and mouse with me? Is this person a psychopathy? What should I do about someone hearing voices to kill someone? I was talking to someone he told me he heard voice that told him to kill. I never told anyone I talk to him every night till 5 am in the mourning to support him. I worried all the time. He even said ''he almost killed someone. I never told anyone kept my word talk to him all the time. I trust him enough to where he slept next to me. I did nothing but support him. I tried to guide him to getting help. After a year of knowing him. Spending my nights talking to him. Offering friendship to him. He tells me it was just a lie. He was doing it to test me. He tells me he feels really bad. I feel like a laughing stock. He told me ''he trust me.'He ''really sorry'' but I have been living a lie for a year. He says I only talk to him becuase I pity him. That's not true. I talk to him before he even told me he heard voices. He was just testing me to see how I react if he could trust me. I feel like I cant trust him. He says he keeps a notebook of peoples reactions. I am the 4th person he did it to. He says ''he going to be up all night feeling bad about it.'' I still think he testing me. When he told me he like yu have excepted 3/5 of the truth. I know he seems emotionally, unstable. Everything seems like a lie and I feel stupid for believing it. I am very mad. Are whole relationship was fake. He says he wish he never done it. I dont think I can trust him again. I honestly, saw his good side. I tried to help him bring it out. * 17 minutes ago * - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details I forgave him but I dont think I can trust him. 16 minutes ago He lied about hearing voices it was not true. So I talk to him about the whole incident. About him lying to me. Then he said ''he was going to kill himself.'' I was kind of mean to him. Before I could apologize he got off line. So I thought he was going to kill himself. So I told everyone, they rushed to his house ans everything. It turns out he was not trying to kill himself. He told everyone i made it up. * 34 minutes ago * - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details I feel like he playing mental games with me.
Will you please reccomend some books to me bassed on what I like and don't like? 1. I still love children's books, since most Young Adult books have very cliche plots. Will power and self discipline... 15 answers? I feel like I don't do enough. Actually, I feel that many of the things I am pursuing are futile. Deep down, I know I'm wrong, and I'm willing to take the heat. I'm good at motivating other people, but when I sit down and try to focus I feel so bored and uncomfortable. It's easy for me to spend 5 or 10 minutes a day, three or four times a day, but when I try to spend an hour, I just want to give up. I'd like to have some solid methods for self motivation, confidence, and willpower. Are there any out there, or are there a few? Actually, is there some kind of guide? There are so many ways to motivate others that are so extremely successful, I feel like there has to be something for individuals seeking to improve themselves, too. Right now, I feel like I'm only able to motivate myself to abstention, but it doesn't help when it comes to doing more with my life. I've cut video games out of my life. Sometimes, I go on long walks and just don't let myself come home. I take my notebook, sometimes, and I try to pep myself up. I get home and sit down with a dedicated mind. Five minutes later, I'm going nuts. I'd always rather do nothing than do anything.... Whatever advice you have to offer, please try to give me something that you can be accountable for. Is there anything that you personally know to work? Thank you. Shy Guy, I think that you have given me some great advice. Actually, I don't watch TV at all.... I use the Internet for work, and I have roommates who would not allow me to cut it out, even if this were not the case. I don't slack off on the Internet, though. When I sit down at the computer, I am very dedicated; however, sometimes I find the lack of information daunting. I work at a very high level, technically, and I find that the information I am seeking simply does not exist on the Internet. I do enjoy the resources that I have found to be reliable, though, and I have simply come to understand that they are the upper limit. I find that I slack off when I sit down with a book, specifically. Chores, I do pretty well, and I'm good at working around other peoples issues, so as not to cause conflicts in my social life. I'm always behind on exercise and, in my opinion, the receptive elements: reading, listening, viewing, etc. I think I am often producing information, but I'm v

Fan speed software on my laptop? First of all, Specs. Model: Compaq Presario F700 Notebook PC Processor: AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 (1.90 GH) RAM: 2.00 GB I was wondering if there were any reasons that I shouldn't run a fan speed controlling software on my laptop. I ask this because I'm afraid it might overheat while playing games, as it can get pretty intense...* I have absolutely no knowledge about this kind of thing, and need to know if there could be any possible negative effects. A guide to using the software would also be nice. :] *GO EXTEEL!!:D Thanks guys. You're awesome.
