Anyone have any advice on good gaming laptop for under $1300? Hi, I was wondering if anyone can give me any insight on choosing a laptop. I am in college and this is going to be a huge purchase for me and my first nice laptop. First, A little about me and the things I need the laptop for. I am a casual to hardcore gamer and am going to school for a digital design degree. Programs that I would need to be able to run would be Autodesk Maya, and Adobe Photoshop style of programs. I would also want to run games such as Guild Wars 2, Battlefield 3, Minecraft, GTA 5 and other new games on good settings. The reason that I am looking for a laptop instead of just building a desktop is because I am frequently changing houses between mine and my girlfriends and the portability would be very practical. I do know that I am losing some performance by choosing a laptop but I am fine with that. My price range is anywhere between 900-1300 US Dollars. A 15-18" screen size would be fine with me. Size isn't a huge concern because I don't mind packing something around in my backpack. I have seen a few pc's that interest me and would like to get some feedback if anyone has an opinion on these products it would be awesome. The first is the cyberpower xplorer x6. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Xplorer_X6-9300_Gaming_Notebook/ I really like that it has an i7 processor and a full 1080 screen. I also like the style and simplicity of the case. My biggest concern is that the graphics card may be a little low. Also on this one I would upgrade it to 8gb of ram and a faster hard drive. (possibly a hybrid drive) I also really like this sager http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_customed&model_name=NP8170 does anyone have any experience with them? In conclusion, Thanks in advance to anyone who has some experience with these laptops or companies. I'm open to any suggestions and am excited to hear what others think.
Good Budget Gaming Notebook? I'm a highschool student without a job, and im interested in buying a gaming notebook. I'd prefer a notebook to a desktop as id also use it for school stuff and thus would like maximum convenience. i was considering this one. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+-+Satellite+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i7+Processor+-+Quantum+Black/9705203.p?id=1218154377801&skuId=9705203 I'd really only be playing games powered by the source engine, like things in the orange box and counterstrike. I also have wow, so i might get back into that. do you think id have any trouble running those games on this book? i was also considering the vaio, as they're the same price. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+VAIO+Laptop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+-+Black/9748868.p?id=1218166171641&skuId=9748868 i was thinking the first one since it has the i7 processor as opposed to the i3. also, i would rather buy a preset one rather than building one on a site. I've been to a couple like ibuypower.com and using similar specs to these it comes out a lot more. thanks for any advice.
Are these good specs for a gaming notebook? I am building a gaming laptop, but trying to make something that will be able to stay fairly competitive for a while. I am using cyberpower as the site i'm using, b/c i have found that the components they have are at the best value for the buck. The following are the specs of the one I was thinking of building. I need some advice as to whether or not this is going to be a decent notebook, for playing most current games, and games to come. Display LCD: 17" WSXGA+ Widescreen TFT Display 1680x1050 Pixels CPU: Mobile AMD Turion™64 X2 Dual-Core TL-64 CPU @ 2.2GHz 2x512KB L2 Cache 64-bit Low Voltage 35Watt Motherboard: ATI RS690 + SB600 Chipset Mainboard Memory: 4GB (2x2GB) PC5300 DDR2-667 SODIMM Memory (Corsair or Major Brand) Video Card: Built-in ATI Radeon HD2600 Mobile 512MB DDR2 Video Hard Drive: 100GB 7200RPM SATA150 HARD DRIVE Optical Drive: 8X DVD REWRITABLE DRIVE Thanks for the help.

I need notebook computer advice.? I need a laptop for online needs for college, however I wanted to fit a little gaming into my agenda. I believe I have found a good notebook computer to accomplish my goals. The only difference I found in the specifications are one offers 3GB of Hard drive and 320GB of memory, and the other offers 4GB of Hard drive and 250 GB of memory. So basically by sacrificing 1GB of HD i get 70 GB of memory or vice versa. Out of the two links below, which would be better to suit my needs? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9053098&type=product&id=1218012529416 http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Acer-AS6920-6508-16-Widescreen-Laptop-AS69206508/sem/rpsm/oid/215816/catOid/-18746/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do#prodspecs By the way, what does the notebook at bestbuy mean by Centrino or mobile processor? Is that good? Also they have different model numbers so, with no computer experiance such as myself, one could assume that these are two different computers made by Acer. Correct?

I'm planning to buy a new desktop/notebook. Need advice if Mac OS is better than Vista.? I have been a Windows user for the last 15 years. Never used a Mac but i have heard a lot of good feedback on this and I would like to give it a try. Desktop/ notebook will be used primarily for accessing the internet, running office applications, organizer, email, synchronizing with my mobile phones and pda, watching movies, listening to and ripping music, picture file storage... Playing games would only be a secondary purpose. Additional info: I would need to connect to a Microsoft network at the office. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm having issues with my notebook? Any advice? Lately my computer has been running really slow. It takes approx. 3 minutes for it to boot up, and then takes an additional three minutes to fully load up....an average computer should only take three minutes. Also, when I open up Internet explorer, it takes 5 minutes for it to fully load up, and when going to another site, it temporarily stops responding, (*Windows Internet explorer is not responding*), and tkaes 10 minutes to fully shut down. I also have a game(Fable-The Lost Chapters) that completly eiither stops responding for 30 minutes, and is very choppy whn I'm playing it. What do I need to do for my computer to run just a little faster?! Do I need a processor upgrade? (Sorry it's a little drawn out...details)

I'm planning to buy a laptop July 2007. Please Help me choose an appropriate one for gaming and work.? It's nearly summer now, and my school is requiring me to have a laptop next year, which is by about the end of July 2007. I'd like a fast processor, preferrably core 2 duo, and also a nice vga such as GeForce 7600 or the Radeon X1600. RAM prefer DDR2. i'll be using it for quite a lot of games, work like using word, and some music and movies. however, my problem is i have a budget of about $1500, and i know that's quite low to start for a gaming notebook. I've been looking at the ASUS F3Jp (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-F3JP.2363.0.html) and the HP Pavilion dv6220TX (http://www.pcresource.co.th/computer/hp-pavillion-dv6220tx-intel-core-2-duo-183-ghz-t5600-vista-premium-200gb-hd-geforce-go-7400256-mb-p-4373.html) . Also, I've had some news that Intel will be releasing the Santa Rosa Platform soon, and need advice on whether to wait for it or not. Please give comments on whether the two models I have in my mind are good or not, and if there are other nice models for me please tell me
Buying a new notebook for school & I need advice? I am looking at buying a new notebook for school and I need to know what I need to look for. I will mainly use it for school, document and spreadsheets, and internet purposes. I don't play a lot of games, and I don't plan to upload tons of music to it (but maybe some.) I have heard that with Vista you want more memory, but I'm no expert. I know I need Microsoft office, but what type of processor, hard drive, and memory will I need? I was thinking of spending $500 - $700 (I am a college student and I don't have unlimited funds.) Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!! Also, are there any brands that you recommend or think that I should avoid completely??
How do I change the screen size on a Acer 5100 Notebook? A friend of mine owns a Acer 5100 notebook and her daughter played a video game on it that changed the screen size. It now has black bars running vertically on both sides of the screen. She tried changing the settings in both the control panel & by right clicking on the desktop (properties). By the way, She has Xp. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

Does the OCZ 17" Gaming DIY Laptop Come With Video Cards? I'm on the market for a new gaming laptop so my first instinct was to go to Alienware I assumed that would be the easiest way to get a good laptop. However the cost is pushing me to the DIY laptop option that I think would be better in the long run. I've found a good DIY laptop but as I am new to building laptops I'm confused. Does the OCZ 17" DIY laptop (link below) come with the graphics cards already installed or do I have to purchase them separately? Also if anyone has any advice on building my own laptop it would be appreciated. -Link- (http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/diy_notebooks/ocz_diy_17-gaming_notebook-small_intel-ati_crossfire_edition-small_) The laptop I'm interested in is the Intel - ATI - Crossfire edition.
Buying new laptop: Advice? Hi all. Looking for some advice. I have finally decided to retire my Dell D600 from 2004... If you have any advice on suggested laptop models, please reply. Thanks in advance! Criteria are below: - under $1000 - 13 to 15 inch screen - 4 GB ram - at least 1GB dedicated graphics card - cd/dvd drive (blue ray not needed) - can be new or manufacturer refurb. optional, but desired features - media card reader multi - no OS I realize it might be kinda hard to find a no-OS laptop. If it's cheaper I would go that way, but if it's more worth it to just get one, then I would go with a Win 7 rig. I have copies of Win 7 and XP both. I am looking to be able to play current games with ease, otherwise just regular stuff. It's also entirely possible my listed requirements are too strict. Let me know. Thanks!! Additional info: 1) What is your budget? Under 1000 2) What size notebook would you prefer? 13-15 inch 3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator. USA 4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like? doesn't matter 5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed? yes, absolutely. 6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook? gaming, internet, watching dvds, photo editing 7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both? 70/30 desk/on the go 8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games? Dragon Age 2, Crysis, GTA IV, Dirt 2 and 3, Civ 5 9) How many hours of battery life do you need? at least 3. prefer 4+ 10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK? no need to see it. 11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista or Windows 7), Mac OS, Linux, etc. no OS, or Windows 7. Screen Specifics 12) 1600x900 best, otherwise 1440x900, last 1366x768 13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? prefer matte but can do any. Build Quality and Design 14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you? not so much 15) When are you buying this laptop? ASAP 16) How long do you want this laptop to last? as long as I can make it go Notebook Components 17) How much hard drive space do you need; 80GB to 640GB? Do you want a SSD drive? no SSD. 200 GB is fine. larger also fine. 18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a CDRW/DVD-ROM, DVD Burner or Blu-Ray drive? DVD super multi preferred
Need advice on notebooks, tablets, and laptops.? I need to buy my wife an inexpensive PC to get her emails and check things like ebay and Craigslist as an example. What would be a best choice from a laptop, tablet, or notebook. She is not into games and crazy stuff on a computer, just needs to do a few simple task at home. It does not need all the bells and whistles but I don't want to buy her junk either. Thanks for any advise on brands and types.
what is the best laptop/notebook to buy ? i am looking for a laptop / notebook whatever you call them for internet downloading of video games , music , and video , and general information gathering on the internet please give you advice any and all will be accepted thank you .
What would be agood laptop/notebook to buy? I am looking for a powerful laptop but at the sametime an affordable one. My budget is somewhere around 1000 and 1300 dollars. What I am interested in a laptop are both games and programming , internet surfing etc. Please post reasons as well for your advice.(general characteristics, performance)
Gaming laptop? I am currently looking for nice laptop to buy which would be used mainly for playing games. Well not 24/7 of course, but I want it to be able to handle newest games pretty well. I know it's not brand that matters it's components but lots of companies don't produce lap tops that are fit for gaming so I come here to ask for your advice. Which notebook or just which company you recommend? I was thinking alienware but heard lots of bad stuff about them tho they seem best. Or dell(although they do own alienware but laptops are different). Feel free to recommend anything(except desktop PC because I need laptop.)
What notebook should I buy that will fit my wants/needs? I'm looking to upgrade from my current mammoth of a notebook (a Dell Vostro 1000), and am in need of advice as to what I should get. These are the things I am looking for: -Big hard drive (I have a 100gb now, with 40gb consumed solely by music... I need something that has a lot of space) -Good sound quality (Since I'm listening to SOMETHING at any time, all the time) -Lots of memory (Only have 1024mb right now, need more) -Good graphics card (Might be interested in doing a little gaming) Pretty much everything you would see in a standard gaming or multimedia notebook, but I still can't decide. I'm looking right now at the Dell XPS series, but I'm not sure if that's the way to go. I'm looking at a price tag under $1500, so that limits my options somewhat. So please just give me advice on where to look or what to get, more than one option is always preferable in an answer.
I'm trying to figure out how much ram to get in my new notebook? I'll be purchasing a Lenovo 3000 N100 in the next week or so. It'll have the following specs: Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz XP Professional 14.1" VibrantView TFT Screen Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 80GB, 5400rpm Serial ATA 8x DVD-R Modem/Ethernet/ABG/Bluetooth Should I choose 512Mb or 1GB of RAM? It's $90 more for the extra RAM, so I'm not worried about the price, too much. But, I'm not buying the notebook, it's a present from my parents, so I'd like to keep their cost as low as possible. Programs that I'll be running: Office Professional - including Access Quickbooks Internet No hard core (Sims, Doom, etc) gaming - only internet and standard games I am considering upgrading to Vista when available. Any advice is great. Thanks:)
Going to buy a notebook, need your advice and genuine review to finalize which one to buy? I need a light portable notebook laptop for everyday personal use. I am looking for a light weight 14" (inch) range with a second generation Intel i5 processor, DDR3 4GB or higher, good stereo sound, multi touch mouse pad with a good enough keyboard for typing, good battery life (at least around 4 hours) with a dedicated DDR VRAM. I will be using the notebook for everyday personal computing like emailing, browsing, uploading my blogs (one is in other than English language for which I have to use online typing on a third party website with instance transliteration), watching videos online & DVD, video chat and occasional gaming, I will also use the laptop for some office work brought home for which I will have to use word, excel & power point besides other software I may install from time to time. By the way I am a multitask addict. I will usually do more than one task at a given moment and it wouldn't be a pleasant experience if the computers heats up and the processor slow down. I am thinking on finalizing on one of the these models I have already checked out. By the way I am living in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Toshiba Satellite L735-11D/E/F (2 year warranty) for SAR 2899.00 HP Pavillion DM4-2000EX for SAR 3399.00 Samsung RC420 for SAR 2799.00 (with a SAR 200 gift voucher at Jarir Bookstore) I have mostly checked out the notepads at Jarir Bookstore, Extra & Carrefour hypermarket. Please give your feedback on the above listed notebooks as well as any other model which will match my requirements but please suggest models that are available in KSA and where I could get it from. Please provide genuine reviews & serious reply only. Appreciate your help.
What's wrong with the media on my notebook computer? I just bought a hp dv9335nr, a fairly decent performing cpu. It came with Vista Premium. I can't download a flash player, I can't watch videos, I can't even see a quarter of the pictures on websites that i go to. I tried to download limewire pro, but when i go to pay for it, the section, " type what you see in the box", doesn't even show up. My games I installed won't play anymore either. What's wrong with my computer? Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated. I need help.
I'm a student looking good quality notebook for the best price? I came across this Dell notebook and was wondering if it would be a good one to buy? I'm not that computer sauvy, so what specifically should I be looking for? I don't play a lot of computer games on the Internet but I'll still be using the Internet. My price range is between $500-$800. I'd like a DVD+/-RW (which is why I like this laptop). It has 60GB, which I've heard is pretty good. I'd like the notebook I buy to be able to last a couple of years as well though. Any advice would be really appreciated! If there is another better notebook that is still within the price range, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks The website is http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/nb_basic?c=ca&cs=CADHS1&l=en&s=dhs Sorry, I thought that perhaps if I gave a couple more specfics, it would help narrow down any questions. Someone advised me that the following should also be included (do you agree?): - Anything above 1 GHz; - A 14.1-inch or larger LCDs; - 40-60 GB; - Windows XP home OS is fine - Weight: Anything around 5-7 lbs.; - I'd also like a CD-RW drive that doubles as a DVD drive if possible (or CD/DVD RW); - Price Range: around $500-$700 (I'm a student!) - I'd also like to be able to use it for a couple of years as well - This is something I read on CNET but I'm not sure how to look for it in the specifications. "Swappable vs. Fixed: In other words, if you buy your notebook with a fixed DVD-ROM, you're stuck with that drive. A swappable drive bay, on the other hand, gives you optimum flexibility. For instance, you can pull out the DVD-ROM drive and swap in a combo DVD/CD-RW drive or even a second battery on many notebooks
Should I get a gaming laptop/notebook? My situation is kind of complicated. My desktop that i have now is getting old but still plays games decently at low settings. The problem is that I have a very limited internet connection. I have the usb Connect Mercury from AT&T right now with 5GB a month at $60 a month. Now I live with 5 other family members that I have to share this internet with. I love to play games like call of duty MW2, and Black ops, Crysis 2 online but with limited internet it makes it hard since I have check daily and make sure the 5GB lasts until the end of the month. To makes matters even worse lately I have bought the games left 4 dead, and The Ball but i cannot play them since there is a 1.5GB update for left 4 dead and 400Mb update for The Ball. Last month I could not play, and had to limit getting online for 2 weeks since I downloaded the 680Mb map pack for call of duty black ops so I had to make the some 30Mb last until the 2nd of the next month when my usage resets. The only option I see is if I buy a gaming laptop. not only would i get me a new gaming rig I would be able to use it at school and download all the updates and games at school or the library. I know I could build a powerfull desktop but then that still leave me a problem with downloading updates. I have been trying to research gaming laptops for a 1yr now and the asus g73sw or the sager np8170 seem like my best options around $1500. I found someone selling the sager np8170 online for $1600 and it seems in good shape and he had originally paid $2200 for it so I am temped at the moment to jump on the deal. I do not want to get a gaming laptop and regret it so some advice would be much appreciated. Also I have tried looking up to see if i can download updates at school and bring them home on a flash drive but that is not possible since I have to download them through the Steam application. Another thing is that I have tried looking at other internet providers but I just happen to live in the worst spot where no one reaches where I live except AT&T. So my major question is should I buy a gaming laptop in my situation? Thanks for reading and I would really appreciate the advice in this complex situation. I live in Leavenworth Kansas. It does seem like I answer my on question, but I am just not sure if it is really worth to get a gaming laptop to just be able to update and download my games. I am very torn with the decision. If there are any other recommendations, such as of gaming laptops, ISP I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
