Which Laptop/Notebook is better for gaming? I need something that can play Starcraft II and Call of Duty Black Ops decently. Is this a good configuration for the new Dell Inspiron 15 notebooks? I priced out a Dell Inspiron 15 notebook for a grad present and I wanted to know if this is a good configuration. I couldn't get XP on it and I couldn't get a 7200RPM hard drive, but here's my configuration: System Color: Jet Black (to make the entire notebook a sleek jet black color) Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core T3400, 2.16GHz/667MHz FSB/1MB Cache OS: Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 RAM: 2GB DDR2 @ 800MHz Hard Drive: 250GB SATA (5400RPM) [Damn it! Problem with the gaming in my laptop? I've got a HP pavillion notebook and games work very well too. last day when i started playing PES 2010 it was lagging in full graphics but when i played it before it was working very well and smooth in full graphics and full resolution. i installed fifa 11 and it is lagging too, not only these all the games which i had and which worked well before started lagging. i recently changed my nvidia control panel settings. please help me with this. or do i have to reinstall my operating system ( currently windows 7) thx a lot. my laptop configuration is intel core 2 duo 1 GB nvidia geforce video card 4gb DDR3 RAM windows 7 ultimate build 7600

Why is Alienware so expensive? I've been looking at different manufacturers for a lightweight mid-range gaming notebook, and after playing around with the configuration tool @ alienware.com, I seem to be coming out about $800+ higher than the same parts from anyone else, like Asus, Sager, or even Dell (And doesn't Dell own Alienware anyway?) Is there something I'm missing? Why would anyone pay such a premium for a laptop that looks goofy in front of anyone over the age of 23?

Gaming help, please.? For average gaming performance with a decent and average priced notebook , which processor would be better, Celeron 3.0 GHz or Core2Duo 1.67 GHz. Other specs are 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, NVIDIA 8400M GS 256MB VRAM, 15.4" WXGA TFT-LCD and 160GB SATA HDD. Please don't suggest any other laptop or configuration as this is according to my budget and I don't want to spend a lot of money for latest games. A great gaming computer that meets specific requirements!? Here's the deal. I previously had a dv3t with basic configurations and i tried playing occasional WoW on lowest graphics (still lagged) Rome: Total war, Starcraft 2:Wings of Liberty (lowest graphics, overheat if there is no deskfan :O), and Warcraft III. After 1year2mo it has died an early death from a random cause because of a windows update (as far as i know). Anyways more importantly.... The present! ((PS: I am a retired WoW player, but if it can run WoW graphics well then it basically covers every game out there that i'm into. Haha) I am looking for a Laptop that runs well on video games. I want one that stays cool and doesn't overheat. A 15.6" Laptop with a price range up to $1000 MOST if it's worth the money--but preferably towards the $800 range. I am a 2nd year college student so I need it to have a fair amount of battery life when it's detatched. When i am out of the house with my laptop I won't be playing games, so if it can last about 3-4 hours untethered while running internet, microsoft word, etc. I want it to be basically an all-around good computer that can run the things that a college student needs, while being capable of runnings games. I don't want a bulky laptop that will be like 10lb. I'd prefer something around 5-6lbs. Oh and my last computer was 500GB Harddrive so that is preferrable too! As far as luxury goes... it doesnt need it--but it'd be nice to have a backlit keyboard (awwesomee). If it can run SC2 under medium graphics with at least 30FPS i will be very happy since i was previously playing on lowest quality with about 10FPS. Ummmm, and yeah. I heard bad things about the Graphics card though and also saying it didn't give crisp details but it had good FPS. Is it safe to have PS3 in a DMZ? I've seen it recommended for ppl who can't get their wireless configuration to work otherwise. But when i have my notebook in public, I see it blocking invasions from time to time. This doesn't happen at home behind my secured wireless network. Is the PS3 particularly vulnerable outside a secured network? I know ppl are using it to store pictures, music, video, etc, basically private information, not to mention saved game files they hold very dear.

Toshiba Satellite A105 Notebook wont start XP? When I shut it off, an error occured and in which lead to me holding the power button to get it to turn off while playing a game. I went to turn it on later while all was going good until the windows XP loading screen appeared and then disappeared. When a black screen popped up stating "We apoligize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was auto. shut down to protect your files and folders, choose LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION to revert to the most recent settings." A list of options including SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE W/ NETWORKING, SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT, LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIG., & START WINDOWS NORMALLY. When I select each option it restarts the PC and then it takes me to the same exact black page with the list of start up options. Anybody have any clue how to fix this? What to do to fix it? The system requirements state that it needs around 128 mb of GPU power. I then ran a DirectX diagnostic to see how much graphic memory i had. i had around 800mb-900mb og graphic memory. I was happy, the install ran smoothly but when i when i got to actually playing the game it was EXTREMELY laggy. I then tried different graphic configurations (even with everything on low and on 640x240) but it still ran relatively laggy and had a crappy look. All I want is a simple answer to why my computer can barely play a game on low settings. Do i need to install any drivers?

Underclocking/Undervolting on notebook with Ubuntu? Hello all. I'm trying to the most out my battery on my notebook. I do have a gaming notebook and I have a dual-boot configuration. I also use this notebook for school and work, and with that said, I don't need gaming performance (especially with Ubuntu) out of my system. My hardware specs are as follows: Core 2 Duo T9600 @ 2.8GHz 2GB DDR3 1333 RAM @ 1066MHz (due to FSB limitation) 512MB Mobility Radeon HD 4650 640GB 7200RPM Samsung Spinpoint HDD -450GB partition for Windows -150GB EXT4 partition for Ubuntu (overkill, I know, but I plan on adding music and movies) -2GB Swap Space Partition -37GB Free space (in case I want to try another OS) Windows 7 Home Premium/ Ubuntu 10.10 6 cell Lithium Ion battery (57.7 Watt-hours) Basically I want to know how to underclock and undervolt my CPU manually, and possibly my GPU as well. Currently I'm using the CPU freq applet that comes with Ubuntu and I'm keeping my system at 800MHz. I do like the applet so far, but I don't know what the voltage configurations are nor do I know if they are optimal for power-savings. I have no idea how I would go about underclocking my GPU, but I would like to my GPU able to run just fast enough to render 720p video (as my screen resolution is only 1366 x 768). Also, any other power-saving tips or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance. @ Tehas - There is a version that's pretty much always in beta, but there is also a stable version as well as an LTS (Long term support) version, which is supported for years. Currently Ubuntu 10.10 is the stable release, and Ubuntu 10.04 is the LTS release. Each stable version of Ubuntu has an life expectancy of about 6 months, then the next stable release is released. I know about the Windows power save options, and to be blunt, I didn't ask about Windows specific power save settings. I almost never use Windows, unless I'm gaming, but even at that, I do like 90% (if not more) of my gaming on my Desktop. There isn't a single advantage I can think of that Windows has over Ubuntu. Also I asked for either Ubuntu specific, or system wide changes. What I'm looking for goes several steps beyond pre-configured "powersave" profiles.
Sims 2 launching problem? Hey guys :) ... I got this game Sims 2... You know that ofcourse, don't ya? :D But a lttle problem appeared... I install the game on my PC... It runs good... But when I install it on my ACER Travel Mate Notebook, wich is 2,6 GHZ and 256 RAM, I run the game and it restartes my computer with blue screen..... Just when it is loading THE SIMS2, video shows up, than loading manifuctures or something like that and *blink* notebooke is off :D .... But minimum configuration for the game is 256 MB Ram (I have) and 800MHZ proccesor (I have 2,6 GHZ) so what is the problem please? :)))) Oh and also, is there some file, that can clean my graphic space? hp dv 2700 or vaio VGN CR 36G?? i am confused between the 2 notebooks. I know the configuration of vaio is better but HP is cheaper and has a better service ive heard. i really like the vaio luks and can afford it too if i can get an assurance dat besides from jus being a brand name it can provide good performance also. will be using my laptop for movies, music, photoshop, little bit gaming and also MS office and browsing internet. Which computer should I get? I am not a very technically inclined teenager who is looking to buy an overprised, insanely nice looking notebook that will last him senior year and all of college, hopefully some beyond, and I would like people who know how all this tech stuff translates into how good a computer is to help me out. I am pretty much buying this instead of a car as I already have a moped and cars cost too much for gas. Laptop Advice..How does this Dell look? Hey guys..I know many of you will have your opinions on which notebooks are better and macs are terrible or hp rules but i'm pretty set on going with the Dell.
