Overheating Asus G73 Gaming Notebook? I've read that an overheating GPU in the Asus G73 laptop is very common and I know my laptop has been overheating. (A few minutes in to a graphically intense game the system will completely shut down) I got a laptop cooler pad that it works great, ever since I got it the laptop has been running much cooler and hasn't had a shutdown since I've been using it. The thing is, I can only play games now on the PC if I use the cooler, does this mean the hardware is damaged? Or could I reapply thermal paste to help prevent overheating? The laptop used to run fine for long periods of time running graphically intense games but after a certain point passed it can no longer run nearly any game longer than a few minutes. If I want this problem solved is the only option to hope my warranty is still good and to hope for a new G73?
Pc gaming hardware questions/specifications? I have a G62 HP Notebook running windows 7. Installed is an AMD Athlon II P340 dual core processor (2 computers) ~ 2.2GHZ, an AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Raidon HD 4250 video card, and it's running direct x 11. I just recently updated the drivers on the AMD/ATI video card. I have recently done an OS update. My question is, if I meet all the system requirements for a game, except having enough GHZ, is it possible that I can decenlty run the game with my AMD processor, just lower the graphics settings on it? I.E. For the game I am wanting to run I pass/exceed the specifications for the processor, RAM, OS, Video Card, Sound Card, and Free Disk Space. The only problem is it requires 3.0 GHZ of speed mininum. I only have 2.3. Will the game still run smoothly for me? **I only have 2.2 ghz.

What software should i use to protect my hardware? Recently the #2 mmo released an expansion that burnt up many players PCs. My desk top gaming pc was fine but my gaming notebook burnt up a 9800m graphics card. The notebook card probably would have survived if it didn't have dust bunnies on the cooling fins so part of the blame is on me. Now i have installed a freeware CPU temperature monitoring program called "CPU Thermometer". Are there other things i should be monitoring ? I'm just talking about protecting hardware (i have malware, spyware and anti virus programs running - just interested in hardware right now). Thanks for the "Speedfan" tip..while i don't know enough to actually use it's options it does allow me to see my GPU (35*C), CPU (60*C), HDO (49*C) and all 4 Core Temps - around 33*C The Speedfan program seems to work better on my Vista home premium then windows 7 as far as labeling which temperatures its reading but by comparing them i was able to relabel the Windows 7 pc and now have a glorious little window showing all my pc's temps.

I have a question about my toshiba qosmio hardware wise in the windows experience index? so here are my ratings: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7350 @ 2.00GHz: 5.0 Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB: 5.9 Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9700M GTS: 5.9 Gaming graphics 2301 MB Total available graphics memory 5.8 Primary hard disk 5GB Free (176GB Total) 5.6 So here is my question why would they make everything in my toshiba awesome but the processor? Isn't that really important when it comes to gaming? But honestly how high am i up there with best of the best gaming notebooks? i am just kinda disappointed that they put a crappy processor compared to the rest of the awesome hardware in my computer some of the games i own dont play full quality at full performance. I had to turn off anti-aliasing in Age of Empires III for it to work at full performance. I just got this laptop and am a little disappointed. do i need to do a little setting up/calibrations in my computer for my games to speed up at full quality?
What graphics card is better for gaming the Nvidia GT 540m or new Nvidia GT 640m? You may be thinking of course the Nvidia GT 640m will beat the 540m but I read from Nvidia's website that it had a slower graphics clock and memory clock speeds. But I also found out that it did quite well in the latest good games like Battlefield 3 and Skyrim (and so did the GT 540m). Another thing I found out was that the 640m got a higher 3DMark Vantage score (nearly 8000) while the GT 540m got nearly 5000. Even if there is a difference how much? Will it be noticeable? What does it compare to (e.g GT 640m = 555m or 520m)? How much more frames per second will I get when playing Battlefield 3 on high (without overclocking). Thanks for your answers in advance. (Nvidia GT 540m) http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-540m (Nvidia GT 640m) http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-640m
I installed windows 7 recently on my hp pavilion notebook, which had windows vista, and now when i try to open? windows games, such as solitaire, a window pops up saying "hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware accelertion is turned on." I have no idea what that means, so if anyone can help, please.
Suggested graphics card upgrade for HP Pavilion dv9700 Notebook PC? I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card on my laptop, but I've yet to really go into the realm of upgrading computer hardware. What would someone suggest for upgrading this computer to do some gaming? I would be running things like Assassin's Creed, Lost Planet, maybe Unreal Tournament 3, etc. Currently, it's running a GeForce 7150M/ nForce 630M. Thank you!
Computer Gaming Ability Test? Ok, so I was watching G4's Attack of the Show the other day (actually like a week ago) and I saw them testing a new notebook or something.. I forget exactly what, but they ran this program on it to see how smoothly it ran, it had things like a random line test or something, I'm really unsure on most of it (man I wish I had paid more attention <.<) But yeah I've been wanting to see just how good my comp is now that I've upgraded it, but with so many different games with so many different outcomes (Guild Wars runs worse than Age of Conan with everything maxed to high quality) I'm really just wanting to find a good test, not one that jut reads what is inside your comp and tells you what it SHOULD run but something that will run different scenarios and show you how well it DOES run. Yeah, well If anyone out there knows of such program whether or not it is the one used on Attack of the Show, I'd appreciate it if you shared a link or a hint as to what to search for. Thanks in advance! +Sorry, not sure if this goes in hardware or gaming but I'm going with gaming... As far as I know systemrequirementslab only shows if your comp meets the minimum requirements through a text interface, I'm looking for something that runs actual tests on the computer so you can see if it runs smoothly or even runs it at all. (I hope I'm making sense, I find ti hard to get this question into words.) 3Dmark looks promising, DL'ing it now.
Which laptop is better for gaming? I'm planning on buying a laptop, probably one of these two. Which one in your opinion is better for playing Dragon Age: Origins and for gaming in general? Nvidia Geforce GT 540M no hardware T&L? I bought an acer aspire 5750G notebook a few weeks back. It has an Nvidia Geforce GT 540M display driver with 1 GB of video ram. When I check if the system requirements are good enough to play games on systemrequirementslab.com, it says that my notebook has no hardware T&L. How can such a powerful display driver have no hardware T&L when my old 256 MB nvidia geforce 5500 on my desktop has hardware t&l? http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=209rgd2&s=7
Does Acer Built Notebooks with Poor Hardware and Are they Easily be Damaged Later on ? Dear Friends, I'm thinking to buy Acer Aspire 4740G because it has a lot of nice Features and Hardware including even the Finger Print Security System. The Cost is also low and it's only : USD 700.00 Around. Good For Gaming As well with It's Nvidia Graphic Card. But I'm Wondering that Acer Laptops Hardware are easily be Damaged or Malfunction after 1 year ??? Considering Especially in Low Cost with a lot of Nice Functions and High Tech as well ! Because that sounds too good to be true for Long Term use. Am I right ? What Models of Acer Notebooks are good for Long Term Use Anyway ? Long Term use like : 3 Years at least ! Because Acer now become ranked as World No.2 PC Supplier which Impressed me a lot to buy it's Laptop. I'm also thinking HP DV Series as Alternative to buy and I think that HP Laptops are good For Long Term use ! But Don't have Many good Features like Acer Does ! Also Not so good for Gaming. I can also Consider in Dell Series as well for alternative than Acer. Awaiting for your kind Suggestions on the Long Term Use Brand also with Nice Useful Features Which Enable me for Good Gaming with Draft-N Wifi and must have the Webcam. My notebook is running slow than fast than slow...when i try to play games? Why? So frustrating, please HELP!? My notebook runs so slowly when I try to play games, even old games that my notebook more than meets the minimum requirements? Why? It runs fine for about 5 minutes than slows down for 5 minutes, than runs fine for 5 minutes, than slows down for 5 . .. . . .. . .& so on! I have cleaned out my notebook, done a defragment, Disc cleanup, Registry cleanup... all that i could clean up has been done! Still does it! And the notebook itself gets really hot on the one side when i try to run large programes? Do you think maybe the fan is busted??? Would that cause this? I have 1Gig RAM, and only 128MB video but don't think its anything to do with my hardware since it never used to do this before??? Oh and checked for viruses with AVG, NONE! PLEEEEEEZZZZZEEEE HELP! this is the most frustrating thing ever.
What is the best laptop for gaming? I have an Asus notebook and it runs my games reasonably well but the graphics aren't really out of this world and it overheats really easily when I play fullscreen. I'll be giving this one to a family member because I want to buy another one. Honestly, my old $200 Acer had better graphics than this, even though it was slower loading. I don't really care what the outside looks like, color and design wise (although the Alienware laptops look AWESOME) I just want a laptop that will make my games and movies that I watch look amazing (so a large screen) Also, the webcam on this Asus sucks sweet turtle drool. I wouldn't mind if the laptop had a good quality built in webcam. I would prefer not to spend more than $2,000 but don't let that price limit your suggestions, I could always finance it. I got mixed reviews on the alienware laptops, a lot of people reported problems with the hardware and poor technical support. So basically: -Good gaming graphics -Good quality webcam -$2,000 or less -Doesn't overheat easily I need help choosing, any suggestions?

Asus G50VT-A2 Notebook (NVidia 9800GT) vs. Asus Laptop with Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology? I am buying a laptop for gaming this month and I don't know much about hardware. I can get an Asus Laptop with Intel® Centrino® 2 Processor Technology at Best Buy for $1250. It has 4GB DDR2 memory, 2.26 GHz, 320GB SATA hard drive (7200 rpm) and a NVidia 9800M GS Graphics Card (512Mb). Or for $600 more dollars I can get an Asus G50VT-A2 Notebook, it has 4GB DDR2 memory, 2.53GHz, 640gb sata2 7200rpm Hard Drive, a Blu-Ray Reader and a NVidia 9800M GT Graphics Card (512mb). I wanted to know if the extra $600 is worth the upgrade, or if there is any laptops in between $1200-$1800. Also are these laptops capable of playing top of the line games on high/very high settings, and are they worth getting or are there better notebooks out there? Any help is appriciated.

My notebook is overheating, may someone help me? My notebook is 1 year old and its a Toshiba Satellite X205 (it's meant to play games on it). I downloaded CPUID Hardware monitor that checks the temperatures of some components in my notebook and when its "normal" , my video card (Geforce 8600M GT) is at 78 C, when I play games (Left 4 dead or css) it goes above 100 C and sometimes it just randomly shuts down. It did not happen before, but its now frequent. What can I do to cool it? P.S., I have a cooler that is made for my notebook, placed books under it (checked the vents places), no dust and tried Ice pack by the side of the vents.

If my basic functions are taking notes, watching videos/dvds, gaming(i don't care if the graphics settings have to be on minimum), and i like to make music with fruity loops. Desktop or Laptop? I am wondering if i should get a desktop or a laptop. I am a gamer, but i like traveling places and going to different areas in my house. That is one reason why i want to get a laptop. One reason why i want to get a desktop is because i can upgrade the hardware. A lot of people say laptops suck. But not the one i am getting. I am getting the dell xps m1710 if i get a laptop. And, that is a very good gaming notebook

Underclocking/Undervolting on notebook with Ubuntu? Hello all. I'm trying to the most out my battery on my notebook. I do have a gaming notebook and I have a dual-boot configuration. I also use this notebook for school and work, and with that said, I don't need gaming performance (especially with Ubuntu) out of my system. My hardware specs are as follows: Core 2 Duo T9600 @ 2.8GHz 2GB DDR3 1333 RAM @ 1066MHz (due to FSB limitation) 512MB Mobility Radeon HD 4650 640GB 7200RPM Samsung Spinpoint HDD -450GB partition for Windows -150GB EXT4 partition for Ubuntu (overkill, I know, but I plan on adding music and movies) -2GB Swap Space Partition -37GB Free space (in case I want to try another OS) Windows 7 Home Premium/ Ubuntu 10.10 6 cell Lithium Ion battery (57.7 Watt-hours) Basically I want to know how to underclock and undervolt my CPU manually, and possibly my GPU as well. Currently I'm using the CPU freq applet that comes with Ubuntu and I'm keeping my system at 800MHz. I do like the applet so far, but I don't know what the voltage configurations are nor do I know if they are optimal for power-savings. I have no idea how I would go about underclocking my GPU, but I would like to my GPU able to run just fast enough to render 720p video (as my screen resolution is only 1366 x 768). Also, any other power-saving tips or suggestions are welcomed. Thanks in advance. @ Tehas - There is a version that's pretty much always in beta, but there is also a stable version as well as an LTS (Long term support) version, which is supported for years. Currently Ubuntu 10.10 is the stable release, and Ubuntu 10.04 is the LTS release. Each stable version of Ubuntu has an life expectancy of about 6 months, then the next stable release is released. I know about the Windows power save options, and to be blunt, I didn't ask about Windows specific power save settings. I almost never use Windows, unless I'm gaming, but even at that, I do like 90% (if not more) of my gaming on my Desktop. There isn't a single advantage I can think of that Windows has over Ubuntu. Also I asked for either Ubuntu specific, or system wide changes. What I'm looking for goes several steps beyond pre-configured "powersave" profiles.
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with shaders? I've got an online game I want to run on a notebook with this card, there are its graphics requirements. "Graphic Display: For multi-core CPUs, you may need to adjust the Affinity to run the game on one CPU. Graphics card or chipset must support Pixel and Vertex Shaders 1.4 or later (hardware acceleration recommended), have 64MB of RAM " Chances of that on a low setting?
How can I get Sims 3 to work? So i bought sims 3 yesterday, and i downloaded it and everything and all is well. However, when i click play, it comes up with an error message saying: Unable to start game. Device 0 cannot run this title. No supported video graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware. AHH! And if it helps, I am running it on an msi wind notebook.
Laptop/Notebook for Photoshop CS5? Hi all, I've just started a new job which primarily has nothing to do with Photo Editing, however, they want me to some work for them on the side as I am familiar with the suite. So its a good excuse for me to invest in some new fast and efficient hardware :D That said, I am not too on the ball when it comes to the system requirements as usually I am just using a PC for the sake of it with out really understanding whats under the hood - Perhaps naive :( One small issue is that they are stretched for funds (Recession - Though I think that's a pretty cheap excuse :P) and won't fund or partially pay for it! Id imagine by now its pretty obvious what I am after. But if not, basically I just want a L/N that will run PS CS4 and 5 to the max, efficiently with out chocking on some of the heavier processes. I don't need or want it for any gaming, and seen as (or from what I have read) PS mainly concentrates on the CPU and not GPU, I will be quite happy for just an integrated chip. I would like a 15" or higher LED backlit screen, atleast 3GB DDR3, dual core or higher running at atleast 2.66** and not terribly important, but a finger print security log in scanner thingy would be useful. I would also prefer a Windows 7 based system and not a MacBook (although better for my needs perhaps). I might be going to the US soon, which would be the optimal place to purchase, so my budget is there for a strict $1200.. No more, not even $1 :P (Unless its shipping) Or if sourced from the UK, then max £550! For those that are able to help, thank you VERY much in advance! :) Kind regards, Klis ** As said already, I am not that familiar with specs, but I am basing those on a friends Notebook which I quite liked... But I didn't test it with CS4, so I cant really know if it would work or not :/ With regards to the CPU, i forgot to add, that I would prefer an i5 or i7 based CPU.
