Computer Gaming Notebook Building? I am currently looking to buy a gaming notebook. Now i've been looking everywhere. I have gone through Alienware, Gateway, other major companies. All outrageously over priced. Like Woah. A few nights ago I found a site called iBuyPower.com Here are the Specs for my $1500 computer (With next day creation and delivery. That means it will be at my house in less than 3 days.) (Look below for more details) So thats what I have. Then I found this great computer at BestBuy, but it only has a 1.8GHz. What is the best yet cheapest gaming notebook for $1000 or less? Are these good specs for a gaming notebook? I am building a gaming laptop, but trying to make something that will be able to stay fairly competitive for a while. I am using cyberpower as the site i'm using, b/c i have found that the components they have are at the best value for the buck. The following are the specs of the one I was thinking of building. Need help buying a gaming notebook? after trying to get new video cards or RAM for my Dell inspiron 1545, I found out that I cant do that. Because I asked twice here and people explained this is impossible unless you have a notebook specfically built for that. So I looked around and one name came up on the top of google when I searched for "gaming laptops". Alienware. I've gone back there a couple of times and have decided to get the Alienware M17 notebook. I hear that they have very nice features such as thermal cooling, a fingerprint scanner, and the ability to update the video card. Suggestion for PC gaming build? Wanting to diverge a little from my well used Ps3 over to PC gaming and already having a Dell Vostro 3500 notebook, im in search of a decent desktop gaming build. Im looking for a build capable of running the majority of the new games out there optimally with the settings ranging from medium to high. For point of reference; Skyrim for instance. The budget would be around 1250$-ish. Can go higher, though if any suggestions point to a cheaper build, it would be very much appreciated :) By build i mean a self-built rig, and a screen isn't really necessary :)
Trying to turn my Acer 3690 notebook into a gaming computer? Now should i buy more ram and possibly a graphics card or is that difficult. Im really new to the process of building a computer since i usually stick with consoles. Gaming: Desktop VS Notebook? i currently have a acer 5516 with the following specs: turion tl-52- 1.6ghz dual core 1mb l2 cache , 4GB Ram, 128MB video up to 700mb shared, 160GB HDD 7200RPM, windows xp sp3. Why is it that my brother has a single core 1.8ghz computer with a pretty good graphics card and it can run nba 2k10 better then my laptop can run it. My bro's desktop specs: 1.8ghz single core, 2gb ram, nvidia geforce 6 series, 1.)Why is it that his 1.8ghz single core outperforms my dual core laptop? 2.) could it be the video cards? 3.) should i upgrade my cpu/ram on my laptop or should i just make my own costume built gaming computer all together; my budget is $350 and will be getting my parts from ebay.

What are some really good reasons to buy a laptop/notebook? i already have 2 desktop computers at home (one for general use and one i built for gaming). i really want to buy a laptop, and i know which one i want and i have enough for it, but i don't want to make the mistake of buying it and then finding out i really don't need it.
Would it be cheaper to build a laptop from scratch or to simply buy it from a retailer? Desktop or notebook(laptop)? hey. ive got a toshiba laptop with a celeron M processor and like 700Mb ram. its ok, plays some games but not the newer stuff. i can buy and build a new desktop and it'll be nice. but im at a dilema. should i keep the laptop, i love the mobility of it like none other, or get the desktop with the true processing power. i just cant decide!! no i cant buy a gaming notebook (costs too much), and no, i cant keep both. thank you! i cant keep both cause im going to sell the laptop to pay for part of the desktop. What kind of laptop for gaming should I buy tonight? I'm having a hard time picking one for the following two reasons. First, I can't find one with a powerful enough graphics card It seems. I have an 8800GT in my current rig, and nothing I research seems to match or beat that. That 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT doesn't look like it will cut it on the HP HDX18t, and the ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 - 512MB benchmarks on the Dell aren't any better. Second, I'm worried about huge resolutions. Yes that included full high def screen is nice, but that 1920x1200 native resolution is going to kill my FPS! What is a good laptop for gaming? I currently have a sony vaio pentium 4 512 ram 64 mb radeon video but when I tried to play games like doom 3 and command and conquer tiberian sun it lagged. Should I get a gaming laptop/notebook? My situation is kind of complicated. My desktop that i have now is getting old but still plays games decently at low settings. The problem is that I have a very limited internet connection. I have the usb Connect Mercury from AT&T right now with 5GB a month at $60 a month. Now I live with 5 other family members that I have to share this internet with. I love to play games like call of duty MW2, and Black ops, Crysis 2 online but with limited internet it makes it hard since I have check daily and make sure the 5GB lasts until the end of the month. To makes matters even worse lately I have bought the games left 4 dead, and The Ball but i cannot play them since there is a 1.5GB update for left 4 dead and 400Mb update for The Ball. Last month I could not play, and had to limit getting online for 2 weeks since I downloaded the 680Mb map pack for call of duty black ops so I had to make the some 30Mb last until the 2nd of the next month when my usage resets. The only option I see is if I buy a gaming laptop. not only would i get me a new gaming rig I would be able to use it at school and download all the updates and games at school or the library. I know I could build a powerfull desktop but then that still leave me a problem with downloading updates. I have been trying to research gaming laptops for a 1yr now and the asus g73sw or the sager np8170 seem like my best options around $1500. I found someone selling the sager np8170 online for $1600 and it seems in good shape and he had originally paid $2200 for it so I am temped at the moment to jump on the deal. I do not want to get a gaming laptop and regret it so some advice would be much appreciated. Also I have tried looking up to see if i can download updates at school and bring them home on a flash drive but that is not possible since I have to download them through the Steam application. Another thing is that I have tried looking at other internet providers but I just happen to live in the worst spot where no one reaches where I live except AT&T. Does the OCZ 17" Gaming DIY Laptop Come With Video Cards? I'm on the market for a new gaming laptop so my first instinct was to go to Alienware I assumed that would be the easiest way to get a good laptop. However the cost is pushing me to the DIY laptop option that I think would be better in the long run. I've found a good DIY laptop but as I am new to building laptops I'm confused. Which is the better notebook - the new Dell Studio XPS 16 or the HP HDX 18t? I am looking for a Windows OS desktop replacement notebook, with a lot of multimedia power, great build quality, and good reliability, all for under $2000. I don't need it to be portable, although I would like to move around with it if necessary. I have researched extensively, and the two best notebooks I have found at this price range are the Dell XPS 16 and HP HDX 18t. I know that the Dell has some heat issues, although because I don't do any gaming, this shouldn't be a problem, especially with a cooling pad. The HP is massive - maybe too massive - and I have questions about the quality of HP (I have only ever owned Dell notebooks) as well as the really cheap looking chrome look. Does anyone have suggestions? I would also really like to hear from you if you own one of these notebooks, and have some idea of their quality, performance, etc.. Thanks. Why not a Alienware Aurora for $1299? Almost every site or forum I visit to research Alienware computers say they are junk and a waste of money. They never really give any reasons and just say to build your own instead. I priced the Alienware Aurora (not ALX) components at newegg.com and you might save about $50-100 building it yourself. I'm beginning to think that there are a bunch of people just brand bashing without giving any real reasons besides 'they suck'. I want a prebuilt gaming computer with lots of room for future upgrades, warranty, support and Alienware Aurora seems to fit that quite nicely. Any thoughts would be appreciated, except 'they suck. Problems recording sound with computer? I am having problems recording sound with my computer. I have tried using Sony Acid Pro, Sound Recorder, and recording videos with my webcam. I have tried recording on several different occasions over the past few weeks. I have tried both the built-in microphone and I tried plugging in my own microphone into the 1/8" audio input. In all of these instances, whenever I play it back the sound wavers in and out. I have an HP G60-120US notebook with Windows Vista 32-bit OS, 3GB RAM, and an AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70 2GHz processor. The microphone/sound card is Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 and my computer says that it is working. I just bought this computer a couple months ago and it works perfectly for all of the other heavy duty work I do (video editing, gaming, internet, etc.). So I am hoping that this issue is fixable. Does Alienware Make the Best Gamer Laptop? I've been on Y!A in the computer section for over a year now, answering questions and helping people with problems. I may be in the market for a good laptop computer here soon. I have been doing my homework. I am comparing prices, features and warranties. I have never owned a laptop before, and frankly, the reason why is because I have heard so many BAD things about them - especially, when something goes wrong...the lousy warrenties, the cheap builds, the hype cover ups on second rate parts. So I stuck with desktops. But now, I am seriously thinking of getting a laptop and I would like to have your advice. I have heard that Alienware makes the best gamer laptops.
